Ezekiel - Wikipedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
He was one of the Israelite exiles, who settled at a place called Tel-Aviv, on the banks of the Chebar, "in the land of the Chaldeans." The place is thus not identical to the modern city Tel Aviv, which however is named after it.
On the fifth day of the fourth month in the fifth year of his exile (Tammuz, 592 BCE), he said he beheld on the banks of the Chebar the glory of God, who consecrated him as a prophet.
His ministry extended over twenty-three years 595 - 573 BCE (29:17), during part of which he was contemporary with Daniel (14:14; 28:3) and Jeremiah, and probably also with Obadiah.

Jehovahs Witness Discussion Forum - Topic: What does Josephus say about 586/87 BCE? (page 1)
All of this shows that the actual length of time from the date of the exile or from Cyrus was not accurately known in the late Hellenistic and Roman periods, at least by these three writers.
The people who believe with all their heart that the chronology dating the fall of Jerusalem in 587 BCE must dismiss Josephus any way they can since he absolutely claims the 70 years the Bible does beginning with the last deportation.
They throw the "fifty year" reference out there and say "It's his last statement" and claims he must have changed his mind but they don't tell you the last time he mentions the 70 years was in a previous paragraph in the same work.

CastleCops Well, this dosen't seem to be a very often visited place!
Isaiah, in the 8th century BCE, apparently metaphorically used "Lucifer" (he actually used the Hebrew word "helel", meaning "Shining One" or "Morning Star") in sarcastic reference to the recently fallen Babylonian monarchy, vanished like Venus from the daytime sky.
In the translation from the Hebrew to the Latin Vulgate (the Xtian scriptural language), "helel" was rendered as "Lucifer".and the whole misinterpreted as refering to the fall of the chief rebel angel.
The speaker is the king of Ahaziah, the author probably a Jewish prophet in Babylon during the 6th century BCE Exile.

I think some kind of massive redirection of these dates (and their BCE equivalents) may be helpful, but what to redirect to?
Articles like 16th century BC are perhaps not helpful when dates are often approximated to a round number like 1500.
