The 59th (Staffordshire) Infanty Division was a Territorial Army unit of the British Army during the Second World War.
The 59th Division was reconstituted on 21 August 1939 as a duplicate of the 55th (West Lancashire) Infantry Division.
This is the division's order of battle at the time of its disbandment on 18 August 1944.

The 50th Division was reduced to cadre in June, 1918, and was reconstituted in July, 1918, with eight battalions from Salonika and two from another division in France.
The 59th Division was reduced to cadre in May, 1918, and was reconstituted with low category battalions in June.

Another duplicate battalion, the 3/7th, was formed in March 1915 and remained in Britain for the duration of the war.
In the home front the 2/7th Robin Hoods had, meanwhile, been sent to Ireland with the rest of the 59th Division to help suppress the 1916 Easter Uprising in Dublin.
The division return to England in January 1917 and then moved to France in February.

The division received its first taste of war on July 9, when, with the 27th Division, it was assigned to the organization and defense of the East Poperinghe Line, a third defensive position in the Dickebusch Lake and Scherpenberg Sectors.
The 30th Division returned to the line on the night of October 15 and 16, the 59th Infantry Brigade relieving the 54th Infantry Brigade (27th Division), in the right sector of the II Corps from Vaux-Andigny to one-half kilometer west of St. Martin-Riviere, British Sixth Division on the right, 27th Division on the left.
The 30th Division was relieved by the British First Division on the night of October 19 and 20, and moved, October 20-23 to the vicinity of Tincourt-Boucly and Roisel.

Later in 1915 it was decided that the Second Line East Lancashire Division would be kept intact as a formed unit with the intention of deploying overseas at some point in the future.
Division moved from Crowborough to the Cavalry Barracks at Colchester, departing for active service in France at the end of February 1917, remaining there until post-war de-mobilization.
Division had only a short existence in World War Two and was disbanded in June 1940.

In both World Wars the rapid expansion of the Territorial Army was achieved by creating duplicate units which were formed from a cadre of staff detached from the existing unit to recruit, train and administer the duplicate.
59th Division veterans have always prided themselves in the fact that they were the only WWII duplicate division to fight overseas.

When the French Fourth Army advanced northward in the Champagne on September 26th three regiments of the 93rd American Division were included as units in the French divisions of the IX Corps, which was directed to attack from a position a few miles west of the Argonne Forest.
The 59th Division attacked September 28th, and the 370th Infantry, as one of the assault units, succeeded by October 4th in advancing its lines to the south bank of the Ailette River.

By Order No. 4442, Headquarters 59th Division, French Army, dated October 16, 1918, the General Commanding the division thanked the Colonel of the 370th Infantry for the good work done by the regiment in aiding the Engineers in the repair of roads and the cleaning of villages in the devastated districts.
The 2nd Battalion occupied a position on the left of the division with the 68th Regiment of Infantry on the left.
Their position was near the center of the 59th Division, in the same spot where France had lost division after division.
