German historians begin the battle in mid-August 1940 and end it in May 1941, on the withdrawal of the bomber units in preparation for Operation Barbarossa, the attack on the USSR.
The RAF roll of honour for the Battle of Britain recognises[2] 510 overseas pilots as flying at least one authorised operational sortie with an eligible unit of the Royal Air Force or Fleet Air Arm during the period 10 July to 31 October 1940.
This squadron would later be re-numbered as the RCAF's 401 "City of Westmount" Squadron, in line with the RAF's policy of numbering Dominion units flying with the RAF in the 400-series to avoid confusion with similarly-numbered RAF units (this numbering system is still used by Canadian air squadrons to honour their World War II contributions).

Battle of Jutland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The battle is often regarded as demonstrating that the Royal Navy was technologically and operationally inferior to the German Navy.
Despite his poor control of his battlecruisers, his neglect of the 5th Battle Squadron and inadequate battle preparedness, Beatty was fully prepared to lambast Admiral Jellicoe for not being aggressive enough; even though during the course of the battle Beatty, and Admiral Arbuthnot, had shown the folly of charging in for the attack.
On the 90th anniversary of the battle, in 2006, the Ministry of Defence announced that the 14 British vessels lost in the battle were being designated as protected places under the Protection of Military Remains Act.

 The Grand Fleet
The 5th Battle Squadron, in single line ahead, was five miles N.N.W. of the Lion, being screened by the light cruiser Fearless and nine destroyers of the 1st Flotilla.
The course of the Battle Cruiser Fleet was then altered to the eastward and N.E. towards the smoke, the enemy being sighted at 3.31 P.M. and identified as five battle cruisers accompanied by destroyers.
This slower squadron was some distance astern of the battle cruisers and, by reason partly of the smoke of the ships ahead of the enemy vessels and partly of the light to the eastward having become less favourable, difficulty was experienced in seeing the targets, not more than two ships being visible at a time.

At the beginning of the 9th century, under Charlemagne, Belgium became the centre of the Carolingian dynasty, and the peace and order during this period fostered the growth of such towns as Ghent, Bruges, and Brussels.
Meanwhile the remains of the Belgian army were stationed on the extreme left of the Allied front, having withstood severe fighting at the Battle of the Yser.

Beatty's Report on the Battle of Jutland
After the first report of the enemy the 1st and 3rd Light Cruiser Squadrons changed their direction and without waiting for orders spread to the east, thereby forming a screen in advance of the Battle Cruiser Squadrons and 5th Battle Squadron by the time we had hauled up to the course of approach.
In the meantime the 2nd Light Cruiser Squadron had come in at high speed and was able to take station ahead of the battle cruisers by the time we turned E.S.E., the course on which we first engaged the enemy.
The 5th Battle Squadron were now closing on an opposite course and engaging the enemy battle cruisers with all guns.

In this phase the superdreadnoughts of the 5th Battle Squadron inadvertently lagged behind the battlecruisers and for a period had to fend off the lead German dreadnoughts and Hipper's battlecruisers on their own.

On 22nd May 1916 the five battleships of the 5th BS duly passed under the Forth Bridge and took up their anchor berths amongst Beatty’s ships and shortly afterwards the 3rd Battle Cruiser Squadron (Rear Admiral the Hon Horace Hood CB MVO DSO) slipped and proceeded north to join Admiral Jellicoe at Scapa.
Acutely aware that his squadron was now receiving the undivided gunnery attention of 5 battleships and 5 battle cruisers, Evan-Thomas brought his ships up to maximum speed as they thundered and fought their way north.
Despite this her Damage Control Parties eventually prevailed, the steering was re-connected and the ship was brought under command again; and with her main armament still in action and steam maintained to the boilers WARSPITE rejoined the line.
