V Bomber Command was established in Townsville on 5 September 1942.
Another possible location for V Bomber Command HQ was the North-Eastern Area Headquarters building in Sturt Street, Townsville.
Brigadier General Walker was appointed by General George C. Kenney in about August 1942 to command the Allied Air Forces in the North Eastern area with the assistance of Group Captain "Bull" Garing of the RAAF.

 VI BOMBER COMMAND IN DEFENSE OF THE
The job of the VI Bomber Command bombardment aircraft in these exercises was to intercept the vessel as it passed through the Pacific patrol screen and to send a striking force against it.
Bomber Command's strength as of December 7 was negligible, and its B-18's were useless for the type of over-water patrols required for protection of the Canal.
This freed the Bomber Command from the necessity of supervising operations in the Antilles, and enabled it to devote all of its energies to the Pacific patrols.

By March of 1942, the War Department planned to have 165 heavy bombers in the Philippines and, at least, 240 fighters.

Fraser and his crew were now often used as Master Bomber to control bomber attacks and for one such attack on Nantes on 7th May 1944 he was awarded the bar to his DSO.

The service which took place in a packed Lincoln Cathedral last Sunday, and which was preceded by a Lancaster flypast, marked the unveiling of a permanent memorial ledger stone to Bomber Command, following an ongoing and successful public campaign spearheaded by local veterans.

As commander of the 5th Bomber Command during the period from 5 September 1942, to 5 January 1943, Brigadier General Walker repeatedly accompanied his units on bombing missions deep into enemy-held territory.
