The term 5th millennium BC here refers to the span of time between the Early Pottery Neolithic cultures of the Yarmukian and Jericho IX on the one hand, and the Chalcolithic Ghassulian-Beer Sheva cultures on the other (based on uncalibrated C14 dates).
The two main aims of this work are a) the synthesis of all (available) 5th millennium BC ceramic assemblages in Israel and their presentation in a consistent typological framework.
In the Conclusions, the four major ceramic regions discerned in 5th millennium Israel are described: 1) Wadi Raba Territory 2) Jordan Valley 3) Samaria Hills 4) The South, and a cross-regional chronological sequence is presented.
