 JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS
Since the date 537 B.C. is historically valid, it would seem that a count backwards of 70 years to 607 B.C. is likewise logical to determine the date for Jerusalem's destruction.
The Society would object to this date for this would mean that the 70 years ended in 639 B.C.; not 537 B.C., which the Watchtower knows is the date that the Jews were released from captivity in Babylon.
As was shown, the period of 'servitude' to Babylon began in 609 B.C. and ended with Babylon's fall in 539 B.C., for it is obvious that there could be no servitude to Babylon had Babylon's power ended.

Its most famous king, Hammurabi (1728 BC-1686 BC), was known for his harsh code of justice - the Code of Hammurabi.
After his death, however, weak rulers followed and the Empire ultimately became subject to the Assyrians (885 - 607 BC).
It was during that period that the Assyrians also conquered and took into captivity the northern kingdom of Israel, from which the "Lost Ten Tribes" never returned (2 Kings 17:1-23, NKJV).

Since the capture of the city is represented as still in the future, it seems evident that the prophecies were delivered some time before 607-606 BC, the year in which the city was destroyed.
Hence, the activity of Nahum must be placed somewhere between 663 and 607.
One thing is made quite clear by the prophecy itself, namely, that at the time the words were spoken or written, Nineveh was passing through some grave crisis.

After all, the 607 date of the WTS uses the reign of Cyrus as an "anchor point," so it would be unwise to deny this.
Then, of course, they would lose 607 as a key date, and it would be naive to believe all this distrortion of evidence from the WTS is for any other reason than keeping the 607 date, again to save 1914.

By taking the sole Biblical approach, I discovered that from the year 4000 BC to the historically recorded times of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, 605 BC, the Biblical count of years was to within four or five years of the proven historic time in years of King Nebuchadnezzar's coming on the world scene.
