Interstate 610, colloquially known as "The Loop", "Loop 610" or "The 610 Loop", traditionally marks the border between the inner city of Houston ("inside the Loop") and the suburbs.
It was officially designated as Loop 137 in 1942, and the North Loop was approved by the Texas Transportation Commission.
Major segments of Interstate 610 are known as the North Loop, the South Loop, the East Loop, and the West Loop.

Also known as "Loop 610", Interstate 610 is one of less than a dozen true 3di loops.
Construction began on the North Loop in the 1950s, and when Interstate system mileage was apportioned, Houston's loop was approved -- in part.
On Oct. 1, 1959, the Bureau of Public Roads (BPR) approved I-610 at a location leading from I-10 east of Houston looping north, west, south, and east to end at I-45 southeast of Houston -- a "C" shape.

The second project, which consists of work on the West Loop main lanes and frontage roads as well as the addition of entrances and exits from US 59-Southwest Freeway to just south of Post Oak Boulevard, is also complete.
For example, while plans for the West Loop will result in a 25 percent increase in lane miles, the increase in movement and capacity is far greater because the improvements will ease congestion where it counts: at the bottlenecks like IH 610 and US 59 and IH 610 and IH 10.
TxDOT and Uptown Houston have formed a strategic partnership to ensure that the West Loop project is managed in the best possible way to minimize the effects on commuters and Uptown residents, workers and visitors.

Review: Sony Ericsson HBH-610 - infoSync World
As most loop designs do, the HBH-610 also tends to flap, and as such is best suited for nothing more than quick walks and stealthy rubberband wars around the office.
This is perhaps even more unfortunate seen in light of the automatic volume adjustment and noise reduction capabilities of the HBH-610, which do a good job of minimizing the amount of interaction required whilst at the same time enabling use in moderately noisy environments.
Unfortunately, the handset loses a few points on the note of comfort as its loop style design could not be worn over longer periods of time without chafing, and battery life was merely adequate.
