		First of all, a group is only as strong as its individual members, and the 62 Group has always attracted a committed, professional membership.
		Groups often founder when rigour is abandoned in favour of a kindly indulgence to its members - they become self-congratulatory.
		62 Group broadened its horizons, increased it international membership, and Embroidery (in the strictest sense of the word) has been replaced by the concept of Textile Art.

		The 62 Group was a militant was a broad based coalition of anti-fascists in the United Kingdom, To be a formal member you had to be Jewish but they worked with people from all communities including many Irish and Black activists.
		Its tactics consisted of direct action against those groups it believed were organising violence against minority groups, which sometimes resulted in violent confrontations.
		However, it attracted criticism from more moderate groups who shunned violence and advocated challenging racism through legislative means, and members of the far-right who accused it of deliberately starting violence.

		In 1990, a group of enthusiasts had the opportunity to acquire a USA type 0-6-0 tank locomotive.
		This type of engine was used by the Southern Railway, mainly for shunting in Southampton Docks between the end of World War Two and the demise of steam in the 1960's.
		Following a thorough examination, finance was raised on behalf of what was to become "PROJECT 62", named after the class of engine and 62-669 was purchased.

		The 43 Group was a British anti-fascist group set up by Jewish ex-servicemen after World War II when they returned to London to discover Oswald Mosley, having been released from jail, had started up trying to re-build the British fascist movement.
		Their name is said to have come from the number of people in the room at their founding meeting.
		Although Mosley's 'Union Movement' was very active throughout the 1950s it wasn't until 1962 that the 62 Group was formed in the 43 Group's image, but named after the relevant year this time.
