Shaiman has earned five Academy Award nominations, a Tony Award and a Grammy Award for his work on the musical Hairspray, and an Emmy Award for co-writing Billy Crystal's Academy Award performances.
In 2002, he was honored with the "Outstanding Achievement in Music-In-Film" award at The Hollywood Film Festival.
He helped create the material for her Emmy Award winning performance on the penultimate Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

For 15 years the Academy Awards Presentations were banquet affairs held, after the first in the Blossom Room, at the Ambassador and Biltmore hotels.
It was here, on March 19,1953, that the Academy Awards Presentation was first televised.The NBC-TV and radio network carried the 25th Academy Awards ceremonies live from Hollywood with Bob Hope as master of ceremonies and from the NBC International Theater in New York with Fredric March making the presentations.
The Awards ceremony was postponed from April 8 to April 10 in 1968 out of respect for Dr. Martin Luther King, who had been assassinated a few days earlier,and whose funeral was held on April 8, the day set for the Awards.

Lucas was at home at USC, while other film students were busy complaining that nobody was giving them film to work with, Lucas was finding classes which offered bits of film (basically courses which used film to test skill) in which he took full advantage.
His first was an animation class (nothing like we have today) where he made a one minute film called A Look At Life out of 35 feet of film, that miniscule length of celluloid garnered Lucas around 25 awards at film festivals around the world and he became a filmmaking star on campus and elsewhere.
His sense of the future has rebuilt and revived the film industry and the way filmmakers approach their projects.
