The United States Secretary of State is the head of the United States Department of State, concerned with foreign affairs.
Congress then passed another law giving certain additional domestic responsibilities to the new Department and changing its name to the Department of State and the name of head of the department to the Secretary of State, and Washington approved this act on September 15, 1789.
Those that remain in the Department are: storage and use of the Great Seal of the United States, performance of protocol functions for the White House, drafting of certain Presidential proclamations, formally accepting notice of the president's resignation, and replies to public inquiries.

General George Scratchley Brown was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Department of Defense, Washington, D.C. In this capacity, he served as the senior military adviser to the President, the National Security Council and the Secretary of Defense.
In March 1977, he told high-ranking military and government personnel in a lecture that Congress was being meddlesome and irresponsible in its dealings with defense and foreign aid.
The President's press secretary, Jody Powell, said in March 1977 that Carter was "not inclined to evaluate his performance on the basis of events that took place during the previous administration." He had served as Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs from 1966 to 1968, when he went to Vietnam.

The report shows that Indian youth trail their peers in basic financial management, but to close this financial literacy gap, NCAI and the NFEC are working to promote the availability of financial education and mentoring for Native youth in classroom, community, and family settings.
