		The 6L6 is a rather extended family of beam power pentode tubes, with an octal base.
		These may be used as a secondary calibration reference wherever a "6L6 calibration tube" is called for in factory alignment procedures, or for spot-checks of your tester's current state of calibration.
		The metal 6L6 was the tube of choice for the calibration standard, for many tube tester manufacturers.

		The venerable 6L6 was introduced by RCA in early 1936 as an audio power tube.
		This second article in turn inspired a whole series of compact 6L6 transmitter designs in QST starting with the QSL 40 in February 1938 and ending with the QSL 25 in April 1941.

		Also the Galaxie 10 uses a 6L6 power tube the VJ uses an EL84 if power tube type is a consideration.
		I know this post is old, but I owned the Galaxie 10 for about 1 1/2 years and replaced the speaker and the 2 tubes, its a very nice amp, very well made.

		My questiion is why is the 6L6 family not the same family as the 12L6, 25L6, 50L6?
		These higher filament voltage derivatives sharing the same name are wimpy 10 watt PD tubes which match the 6W6, whereas the 6L6 is a serious PD output tube, in any of it's incarnations.
		Obviously the 1L6 must be related to the 6L6 and 50L6 as well

		Can anyone tell me if the 6L6 will sound good with 270 volts on the plate running in class A? Also, does it compromise the sound when multiple pairs are used in parallel?
		G and GA and GB goes to 350 but 270 is good for 2 tubes PP in class A. PP AB goes back up to 360.
		I am taking it that the 6L6 is the old steel can that works at 250.

		A standard 6L6 draws.9 amps of heater current where the JJ E34L draws 1.5 amps.
		A KT88 draws 1.6 amps so as you can see a quad of KT88's will only draw.4 amps more that a quad of E34L's and is not going to cause a problem.
		Dual Rec's are a unique amp because of the different settings available with the "spongy" and "bold" settings along "6L6" and "EL34" settings and the "solid state" and "rectifier" modes.

	Help, Uncle Ned, My Amp Has 7027's!
		In nearly all cases the Tesla, Svetlana and Philips 6L6 (or 7581) will work in amps that use 7027, without any socket rewiring at all, and it'll save you some money to boot.
		Note in an Ampeg (at least the ones I've seen) the tubes are biased at maybe 20W per tube or less...if tubes are derated for dissipation, they can indeed be run higher than published voltage rating, sometimes quite a bit more.
		In our Ampeg VT-40, AKA "Uncle Ned's 6L6 Torture Chamber", which runs 585 nominal volts (our line voltage is a bit low, so it's really only about 570) on the plate, I recently had it cook away with a pair of Tesla 6L6-GC, which seem to be handle the strain quite well.

	Mook's Taste Tests for 6L6
		Apart from some 6L6 tests that Gerald Weber did in Vintage Guitar Magazine, I know of no other sound/taste tests for the 6L6-type tube.
		I attribute this to both the lack of Negative Feedback and increased gain in the Phase Inverter section of the amplifier.
		The AudioGlassic 6L6 was an all around Les Paul winner, the STR007 seem better geared toward distorted tones, and the STR415 was better suited for cleaner, jazz comping, voicings.
