For 15 years the Academy Awards presentations were banquet affairs; after the first at the Hollywood Roosevelt, they were held at the Ambassador and Biltmore hotels.
The 16th Awards ceremony was held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
For a dozen years, the event alternated venues – the 62nd, 64th, 65th, 66th, 68th and 71st Awards were held at the Music Center, while the 63rd, 67th, 69th, 70th, 72nd and 73rd were at the Shrine.

To commemorate the 70th annual Academy Awards ceremony, all former acting Academy Award winners (lead, supporting, honorary, or juvenile categories) were invited to the ceremony to take part in an on-stage salute hosted by Susan Sarandon.
Voting for the Academy Award nominees are handled by the specific branches of AMPAS -- that is, the actors' branch vote on the acting nominees, the directors' branch vote for the direction nominees, the visual effects branch vote on the nominees for visual effects, and so forth.

 The 70th Annual Academy Awards (1998) (TV)
To mark the occasion of Oscar's 70th birthday, the show featured a segment called "Oscar's Family Album" in which the academy invited every living actor who had ever won an Oscar in the four acting categories, honorary recipients and some who had received the now defunct juvenile acting award.
They were seated on riser benches and the camera went from actor to actor and announced their name and the film for which they had received an Oscar.
It was also a sad moment to see the beautiful late Aaliyah sing the song "Journey to the Past." When the Oscars presented almost all of the living actors and actresses who have all received an Academy Award, it was almost heart-breaking to see how many of them are no longer with us.

Gordon E. Sawyer Award - Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
Gordon E. Sawyer, former Head of the Sound department at Samuel Goldwyn Studios and a member of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee from 1936 to 1977, claimed that the lists of past awards, arranged both chronologically and by category, represented a history of the development of motion pictures.
After his death, an Honorary Award (an Oscar statuette) was established in his name (the Gordon E. Sawyer Award) to recognize "an individual in the motion picture industry whose technological contributions have brought credit to the industry." Recommendations for this award have customarily been made through the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee.
