Nikon Coolpix 775 Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review
Nikon gave us our first glimpse of the 775 behind closed doors at PMA 2001, it was announced a little later at the same time as the Coolpix 995.
The ultra-compact 775 features a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.1 megapixel CCD, its small proportions, plastic case and lightweight lithium battery makes it one of the lightest digital cameras on the market today, it tips the scales at just 230g (8 oz) fully loaded.
The 775 also has a movie mode which is limited to 15 second clips without audio.

The Shore Line Trolley Museum: Articles: Car 775
Now, various long-dormant devices relating to one-man operation were restored and reactivated, such as door levers which allow the operator to open and close the leaf doors from his position, and a cord to allow the passengers to stop the car in an emergency.
The bulk of the work on the 775 restoration was done by Ted Eickmann and a small core group of museum member/volunteers, with dozens of other member/volunteers contributing time to the project as well.
When both 500 and 775 reached the platform at Short Beach, 1.5 miles later, visitors were given the opportunity to switch cars so no one would miss their chance on either car.

As this is AMCAP's first dealing with restoration planning, we've learned our original timetable for 775's restoration didn't allow for unforeseen problems that developed as well as locating some of the parts needed for a bus over 50 years old.
Considering that most restorations are babied after all the work that was put into restoring the vehicle, 775 frequently saw hard revenue service for several years after its original 1974 restoration.

NEWS! - Nikon announces ultra-lightweight Coolpix 775!   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Weighing in at 6.5 ounces without batteries, Nikon bills the Coolpix 775 as 'the lightest 3x zoom digital camera in the world' - Canon's PowerShot S300 being some 30% heavier at 8.4 ounces, and Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-P1 being 35% heavier (although this weight is inclusive of batteries, and hence somewhat unfair to the P1).
The Coolpix 775 doesn't quite match the S300 on size however, being some 42% larger by volume than that camera; by comparison to Sony's DSC-P1 the Coolpix 775 is about 5% smaller volume-wise.
It is worth noting that the DSC-P1 is also a 3 megapixel camera, where the other cameras are both 2.1 megapixel units, and that the Coolpix 775 at an MSRP of $449 is significantly cheaper than the S300 and P1.
