That gave a ballpark date of 700 BC which also tallied with a radioisotope estimate of an ancient stalactite found in the tunnel's ceiling.

At the Japanese Archaeological Association's general meeting in May 2003, Harunari and others presented a set of calibrated AMS radiocarbon dates for the beginning of the Yayoi Period, the beginning of rice farming culture in Japan.
These sites, as far as I know, are all in Kyushu, except one, which is in Hachinohe on the Pacific coast of Aomori Prefecture, at the northern end of the central island of Honshu.
Rice farming spread all over western Japan around 400-500 B.C. (uncalibrated radiocarbon age) and is also found in a number of sites in Aomori Prefecture, apparently spreading up the Sea of Japan coast along the Tsushima Current, together with the spread of one of the oldest recognized styles of Yayoi pottery, Ongagawa.

The meandering tunnel runs 533 metres beneath the ancient section of Jerusalem known as the City of David, diverting water from Gihon Spring in the Kidron Valley, to Siloam Pool in Jerusalem's ancient heart.
Radiocarbon-dating of the wood sample establishes its origins at between 822-796 BC, and two plant samples are dated at 790-760 BC and 690-540 BC respectively.

The sample from Feature 9 may have been contaminated with debris from an animal burrow and contained some material that was only partially charred; this disturbance most likely accounts for the extreme deviation of its date from the dates of all other sampled features.
The average date is around 588 BC, corresponding closely to the presumed "founding" date of the Iron Age Heuneburg (Periods IVb/3 to Ia), which lasted from 600 BC-440 BC.
The oldest of the Hohmichele dates is only 20 years older than the oldest date from Tumulus 17 (and given the standard deviation, that difference loses significance), while the most recent Hohmichele date is 20 years younger than the youngest of the dates from Tumulus 17.
