Although no scriptural evidence is available for the time of the beginning of the regnal year in the northern kingdom of Israel, when a Nisan-to-Nisan regnal year is used for Israel together with a Tishri-to-Tishri year for Judah, the perplexing discrepancies disappear and a harmonious chronological pattern results.

In order to arrive at the date of the Exodus, we took this date of 586 BC and added to it the years of the kings of Judah after Solomon.
With his first year of reign as 970 BC, this would place his 4th year at 966 BC- the year he began work on the temple.
The earlier passage said that for 400 years they would: 1- be strangers in a land not theirs, 2- that they would be subject to, or serve, the nations in which they dwelled, and finally, 3- they would be afflicted.

The reign of Joash (835-796 B.C.) is most appropriate for the prophecy.
These people are alluded to in the Assyrian records of the eighth century B.C. Arguments based on the silence with regard to a king or idolatrous places of worship in the Northern Kingdom are pointless.
Since Zephaniah's book dates from around 627 B.C., a number of scholars assign a date of about 600 B.C. for the Book of Joel." So as you can see, there is little 'hard evidence' for agreement here.

The most likely and logical of these theories is the Early Pre-exilic, which would date the prophecy of Joel from about 835 BC on.

Figuring backwards in the accession of the Byblos texts seems to assure that Pharaoh Sheshonk I, on whose side panel of a throne base inscription #1 was found, is to be dated in the late 9th to early 8th centuries BC.
However, until the recovery of the records, there was little information about where individual artifacts were discovered, and therefore, in many cases, it was impossible to assign dates to, or determine the significance of individual objects.
These scholars argued that we do not really know enough of the linguistic conventions of the 9th century BC to call it a fake or genuine on the basis of the Hebrew word "edut (testimony)" for example.

They found the plaster — since covered with other protective smotherings over the years — included tiny pieces of bone, rare charcoal and ash to bind it, as well as chips of wood and "extraordinarily well-preserved" plant fragments.
Radiocarbon-dating at a laboratory at Oxford University put the age of the wood sample at between 822-796 BC, and that of two plant samples at 790-760 BC and 690-540 BC respectively.
That gave a ballpark date of 700 BC which also tallied with a radioisotope estimate of an ancient stalactite found in the tunnel's ceiling.

Joel was a prophet to Judah, the southern kingdom, from about 835 to 796 BC.
His name means "Yahweh (Jehovah) is God." In the book named for him, Joel warns of a devastating four-fold plague of locusts covering the land and devouring everything in sight.
As with most prophets, upon studying Joel’s message, it is sobering to see that it has as much meaning for us today as it did for the people of Judah in 835 BC.
