 Official Biography for John R. Allen
Brigadier General Allen reported to The Basic School as the Director of the Infantry Officer Course from 1990-1992 and was subsequently selected as a Commandant of the Marine Corps Fellow, serving as a special assistant on the staffs of the 30th Commandant and the Commanding General, Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
Brigadier General Allen became the 79th Commandant of Midshipmen in January 2002, the first Marine Corps officer to serve in this position in the history of the Naval Academy.
Brigadier General Allen graduated from the Naval Academy with the Class of 1976 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Analysis.

Leininger, who teaches at the same school where she began her career in education in 1964, is the first grade Reading Recovery teacher at the Akron Elementary School and leads Reading Recovery Literary Groups throughout the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation that has offices at Mentone.
Originated in California in 1987, the awards are being presented this year to 138 recipients in 32 states, including Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio as well as Indiana.
Nationally, the 1996-97 awards total $3.45 million, bringing the amount of Milken Educator Awards since 1987 to $25.5 million.
