 Apollo in Roman Political Propaganda
Of some thirteen moneyers who issued silver coins between 92 BCE and the surrender of Rome to the Marian forces late in 87, seven featured Apollo on one or all of their obverse types.
Between late 87 and 82, when the Marian faction were in control in Rome, Apollo appeared on almost every silver coin on which it was possible for him to appear.
Three of the moneyers who issued Apollo types were firm supporters of the Marian cause—one died fighting at the Colline Gate in 82 [12], one accused Sulla of extortion [13] and one was proscribed [14].

In the civil wars of Sulla, the younger Marius was blockaded in the town by the forces of Sulla (82 B.C.); and when the city was captured Marius slew himself, the male inhabitants were massacred in cold blood, and a military colony was settled on part of its territory.
It was probably after the disaster of 82 BCE that the city was removed from the hillside to the lower ground at the Madonna dell Aquila, and that the sanctuary and temple of Fortune was enlarged so as to include much of the space occupied by the ancient city.
As the archaic shrine was elaborated, from the 2nd century BCE, it was given a colored mosaic pavement representing a seascape: a temple of Poseidon on the shore, with fish of all kinds swimming in the sea.

Inanna and the Sacred Marriage by Johanna Stuckey
The earliest "detailed direct evidence" of the ritual comes from the time of King Shulgi of Ur (2095-2048), but the first ruler named "beloved of Inanna" reigned in Uruk around 2700 BCE, a hint that the ritual was already occurring by then (Lapinkivi 2004:2; Sefati 1998:30-31).
It appears certain that, at Uruk, the priest-ruler, the en, spent at least one ritual night in the high-priestly residence, the gipar, "during which [period] he consummated the marriage with Inanna" (Steinkeller 1999:132).
