The 4th Infantry Division was a regular army division which arrived in England in January 1944 to train and prepare for the cross-channel invasion.
The 8th Infantry Regiment of the division was to conduct the initial assault, reinforced with an attached battalion of the 22nd Infantry Regiment.
The remaining units of the 22nd Regiment and the 12th Infantry Regiment were to be the follow-up forces and were to assist in the seizure of the causeways exiting Utah Beach and occupation of the surrounding high ground.

Within days the division received orders to deploy and advance units arrived in Korea on 3 August 1950 but the entire division was not in Korea until late in August 1950.

 25th Infantry Division Association: The Division
In 1941 its major units consisted of the 21st Infantry Brigade, comprised of the 19th and 21st Infantry Regiments; the 22nd Infantry Brigade comprised of the 27th and 35th Infantry Regiments; and the 11th Field Artillery Brigade, comprised of the 8th, 11th, and 13th Field Artillery Regiments.
The 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry was transferred to the 3rd Brigade as its third battalion and the 2nd Battalion, 9th Artillery was attached as the direct support artillery battalion as well as Troop C, 3/4th Cavalry as the brigade's reconnaissance element.
During the period from the summer of 1966 to the spring of 1967 the 25th Division was the largest division in Vietnam with four brigades under its command, the division's 1st and 2nd Brigades as well as the 3rd Brigade, 4th Division and the 196th Light Infantry Brigade.

On Oct. 10th the majority of the enlisted men were transferred out of the divsion to other divisions and newly drafted men were sent from Camps Devens, Upton, Dix, Meade and Lee, which resulted in there being in the division, men from every state in the Union, but principally the eastern states.
The division began leaving Camp Gordon on April 9th, the movement continuing until May, and was through Camp Upton and England, except the artillery which landed in France.
The division left Escarbotin June 16th and entered the Toul sector with a French Division on June 27th, occupied this quiet sector alone from July 18, 1918 to Aug. 9th, moved to Blanod les Toul training area, taking over the Sector Marbache, astride the Moselle on Aug. 19th and occupied it until Sept. 21st.

The Division Headquarters along with the 3rd BCT and elements of the DIVARTY, DISCOM, Aviation, and separate battalions returned to Iraq in August of 2003 to continue command and control over combat operations in and around Baghdad.
The Division Headquarters was relieved by the 1st Marine Expeditionary Division in March of 2004 and the remaining 82nd forces in Iraq redeployed to Fort Bragg, NC by the end of April 2004.
Today, as they have in recent deployments and throughout the division's history, the troopers who wear the red, white and blue patch of the 82nd Airborne Division continue to form the cutting edge of the United States strategic combat force.
