		NGC 891 is a fine edge-on spiral with a faint dust lane along its equator.
		Gilbert A. Esquerdo and John C. Barentine have investigated NGC 891 in the infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and suspect that this galaxy might have a bar (and thus be of Hubble type SBb) which is not seen in the visible image because of its edge-on orientation.
		NGC 891 is a member of a small group of galaxies, sometimes called the NGC 1023 group, which also contains NGCs 925, 949, 959, 1003, 1023, and 1058 as well as UGCs 1807, 1865 (DDO 19), 2014 (DDO 22), 2023 (DDO 25), 2034 (DDO 24), and 2259.

		From this unusual vantage point we can see in NGC 891 the surprising narrowness of the obscuring dust lane, a dark, slightly irregular band across the galaxy.
		However, unlike the Milky Way, NGC 891 is relatively isolated, undisturbed by neighbouring galaxies.

	NGC 891 - Cherry Springs Dark Sky Park - by Gary Honis
		A Meade 9mm illuminated reticle was used along with a 3X barlow in the 102mm refractor to make manual guide corrections.
		I imaged NGC 891 with a Canon 10D using 65 second exposures at ISO 1600.
		A Denkmeier 2 inch OCS was used for prime focus imaging on the Starmaster.

		The beautiful edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 891 in Andromeda, seen in a V-band CCD image from the Lowell Observatory 1.1-meter Hall telescope.
		The high dynamic range of the image was compressed for display using a nonlinear intensity mapping.
		Note the complex structure of the dust in this disk, often considerd an analog of the Milky Way.
