	8SVX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		8SVX is a subformat of the Interchange File Format.
		The subformat is for 8-bit sampled sounds, supports both mono and stereo streams as well as loops; commonly used as a basic audio sample format on Amiga computers for many years.
		8SVX is supported by AmigaOS by default through 8SVX.datatype and practically by all audio-related applications created for that operating system, including sound editing and music composing software (like trackers).

		8SVX output is affected by the VOL and MONO setting so that you can scale the output for maximum dynamic range within the 8 bits of 8SVX, you can also select either mono or stereo output.
		Saving in 8SVX stereo has a slight problem since 8SVX saves each channel in a contigous part of the file.
		Another solution is to create a harddisk partition with larger blocks (possible with the ROM filesystem from AmigaOS 3.1) which can reduce the need for extension blocks a lot (with 2048 byte/block you just need 36 extension blocks for the 30Megabyte file).

		These samples were in their own idiosyncratic format, but about a year later Bobby Deen wrote a conversion program (available for example on aminet) that turned them into 8SVX files.
		However, the original samples may now be a bit hard to come by, so this is a collection of the 8SVX versions, plus a few converted from a later disc issued by FAUG.
		I put it together for my own use with the MusicWeb [mus/midi/MusicWeb.lha] but they should work with any program that will read 8SVX instruments.

		This is really strange because I have: aiff.datatype 41.5 (2002-06-30) © 1998-2002 by Stephan Rupprecht and wav.datatype 41.10 (2001-03-20) © 1998-2001 by Stephan Rupprecht and 8svx.datatype 44.3 (1999-04-20) and sound.datatype 44.25 (2001-10-18) But MultiView says unknown datatype for everything except 8svx..!

		This sorts out what type the file is, ie a jpeg or sample, and sends on a type format to the mailcap.
		This assigns type x-8svx to any file .8svx or .8SVX.
		This matches up a file to it's relevant viewer etc.
