9 mm Luger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The German military showed an interest in a 9 mm version of the Parabellum in March
Post- World War I (WWI) 9 mm pistols were adopted by a number of countries, and post-WWI acceptance of this caliber spread even more rapidly.
A special load (identified either by an “X” on the headstamp or by a green lacquered steel case) with a 150 gr (9.7 g) FMJ bullet with a subsonic muzzle velocity for use with silencers was produced by the Germans during WWII.

 Sten - One Language
The Sten gun was chambered for the 9 x 19 mm Parabellum pistol cartridge, in part so as to make use of captured German ammunition supplies.
The name Sten is an acronym, deriving from the names of the weapon's chief designers, Major Reginald S heperd and Harold T urpin, with the EN derived from "ENfield", the location of the Royal Small Arms Factory (ROF) at Enfield Lock in London.
The Sten was small and could be stripped down into a set of innocuous components, and was therefore particularly suited to partisan operations on the continent.

In the 9 x19 mm caliber the P99 can hold 16 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber.

 GunOwnersAlliance.com - Ask the Rabbi: 9mm Luger/Parabellum
Luger and Parabellum are just two names for the same 9 mm cartridge (9 X 19).
My understanding the difference in "Luger" and "Parabellum" is the pretty much name only and goes back to the age when these two types were basically the only 9's around, so in order to distinguish between the two, were the names.
Parabellum is a Latin word derived from the Latin phrase, "If you desire peace, prepare for war".

Gunwriters' Questions and Answers, part 7
Overall cartridge length of 9 x 19 mm is, of course, excessive to the magazine of M/-07 but it was easy to move the bullet backwards one millimeter or so.
American TRW company made in early 1970s 5.56 x 45 mm full-auto-only rifle prototype, known as "Low Maintenance Rifle", and Russians called submachine guns PPS 43 as " Avtomat ", although they shot full-auto fire only, but these are rare exceptions.
Development of 9 mm pistols was banned in Germany by Dictate of Versailles in 1919, but it was continued secretly, and, when Adolf Hitler gained authority of German Reichskansler, one of his first heroic deeds was to show that: "Versailles Treaty is nothing more than some sheets of paper".

MP40 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At one point a double clip magazine was also experimented with 64 round capacity, with the double clip being slid horizontally to use one clip and then the next; the weapon was trialed on the eastern front but did not prove a success.
The MP40 had an overall length of 833  mm, though its retracting stock could allow the weapon to shorten to 630 mm.
The odd 'spur' near the end of the barrel was designed to allow the troops to hook the MP40 onto the firing ports of armoured personnel carriers, such as the Sdkfz 251

 Gunwriters' Suomi History 1/2
Some unpatented but significant improvements were the adoption of 9 x 19 mm Parabellum or Luger cartridge and an "open-jaw" magazine well, which allows the use of drum magazines along with a Swedish pattern double staggered-row magazine or "a coffin clip", as well as the usual staggered-row clip for 20 rounds.
Next prototype Suomi, in caliber 7.65 x 21 mm Parabellum or Luger, was made by machine and tool manufacture Engineering Shop Leskinen and Kari, of Tampere, Finland, in 1922.
The Finnish Army, Frontier Guards and Civil Guard were satisfied with the less powerful but very accurate 7.65 x 21 mm Parabellum cartridge, which had been an official pistol caliber of armed forces since 1923.
