		Two neighborhoods, Old Anacostia and Capitol Hill, have been in existence since early in the 19th century.
		To begin with, the ward is neatly sliced in two by the Anacostia River, separating the communities.
		The northwestern section of the ward behind and around Union Station was called Swampoodle when Irish and Italian immigrants lived there, but virtually all evidence of that era was erased by the current canyon of modern office buildings.

	WMATA Green Line
		Just to the east, the tunnel takes a 55-degree curve and plunges into a tunnel beneath the Anacostia River, which was built nearly 20 feet below the river bed utilizing a TBM (tunnel boring machine; the first job of its kind in the USA).
		This former terminus of the Green line is here at Anacostia, on the other side of the Anacostia River, near the intersection of Howard Road SE and Shannon Place SE.
		This station had to circumvent a number of difficulties associated with its location and construction - a couple of local roads, a freeway and the water table of the Anacostia River - a very complex planning and construction job was accomplished here.

		We got the idea to call it "Endangered Species," because when we started this program, we started to bring back the bald eagle to Anacostia 'Cause that's it's natural habitat, its natural home.
		But also, the people who we employ here, which are young, African-American or minority people living in Southeast and around Anacostia, it's like endangered species too, because most of our life expectancy is only 25 because of the environments we live in.
		So, we're trying to bring us back too, bring us back to where we live and to be old people and not just getting killed or whatever, at a young age: 22, 23, 24, 25.

		The destroyer was previously based in Charleston, S.C. Commanded by CDR Jeffery Maydosz, Deyo has a crew of 24 officers and 331 enlisted Sailors.

		Prince George's County, Md. is collaborating with EPA and other environmental agencies to help improve the water quality of the Anacostia Watershed.
		EPA Region 3 recently awarded a $1,100,000 grant to the county to demonstrate Low Impact Development (LID) practice techniques to control stormwater runoff in priority sections of the Anacostia River.
		LID practices are low maintenance landscaping techniques to control stormwater runoff.

		This update is based on USNO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid and UCAC2 star position.
		Close finding chart (prepared in GUIDE8): * occulted star is in center - labeled with cross * field is 3.0x3.0 degrees * limiting magnitude is 13.0 * labeled stars have indicated SAO numbers * remarks: Second chart shows 30' blowup to show correctly the star in field.

		Radio in the Washington DC area dates back to 1912 when the Department of Commerce, which then regulated the airwaves, authorized two experimental stations -- one operated by the Navy in Anacostia, NSF/NOF, and one by the Post Office, WWX.
		The Navy also started NAA as a radiotelegraph station in 1913; it was located at Fort Myer, Virginia.
