  Chance Vought A-7E Corsair II
Officially part of the USN Collection, the A-7E is on indefinite loan from the U.S. Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola, FL, to MAPS Air Museum for restoration purposes.
Originally Designed as a replacement for the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, the A-7 Corsair II was roughly based on the Chance Vought F-8 Crusader interceptor aircraft then in squadron use with the Navy.
With her stablemate the F-4 Phantom, the A-7 was one of the most successful cross-branch lives, serving with the USAF, USN, and USMC and Air National Guard.

 Hasegawa A-7E Corsair II 1/48th Scale Plastic Model Kit
The LTV (Ling-Temco-Vought) A-7 Corsair II was designed for the US Navy as a light attack aircraft to replace the A-4 Skyhawk.
Corsairs first entered Navy service in 1967 and were used extensively in combat over Vietnam.
The A-7E and its Air Force counterpart the A-7D were derivatives of the original design with an upgraded engine and avionics package.

Chance Vought A-7E Corsair II The A-7 Corsair II was a U.S. Navy aircraft first flown in 1965 and was used in Vietnam with little modification.
The first Corsair II (model A) went into service in Vietnam in Dec. 1967, where it proved to be highly accurate in its bombing due to sub-sonic speed.
The Corsair II was also used in Grenada, Panama, and Iraq.

As I wanted to finish my Corsair in low visibilty scheme, appropriate decals were needed.

Union City, GA After a long time away from Corsairs (VA-22 line division 1988-89), I had an opportunity to visit the USS Midway museum last December.
Arlington, TX I built the vought A-7E corsair.This is a great attack aircraft,it also had a nickname,,,SLUFS,,well there is nothing ugly about this aircraft, i love its look's.
I enjoyed the tours with the Corsairs, as an AE teh electrical system was a bit more complex with the Es but once you got em dialed in, they were on time and on target and a darn good gas station as long as the mechs stayed out out of the buddy store electrics!!!

 VFA-147 Strike Fighter Squadron ONE FOUR SEVEN
Attack Squadron 147 was commissioned as the Navy's FIRST A-7E Corsair II squadron on February 1, 1967 in Lemoore, California.
VA-147 was the FIRST squadron to employ the Corsair II into the Southeast Asian Conflict while deployed to the Western Pacific aboard the USS RANGER (CVA-61), and amassed a total of five combat deployments conducting air operations over Vietnam.
The A-7E was retired following a Western Pacific, Indian Ocean deployment in February 1989, and Attack Squadron 147 was officially redesignated as Strike Fighter Squadron 147 (VFA 147) on 20 July, 1989.

The A-7 Corsair II represented the last in a long, proud line of naval aircraft to bear the name of the Vought Aircraft Company.
The Navy jumped on board the improvement train and designated their version the A-7E, which became the most numerous variant of the line with 535 aircraft built.
My bombs are smooth, but note that Navy bombs beginning in the late 1970s have a rough texture, consisting of a special fire-resistant coating to prevent them from "cooking off" in case of an on-board fire, a lesson painfully learned with the inferno aboard the USS Forrestal in 1967.

 Ling Temco Vought A-7D Corsair II
The A-7E differed from the USAF A-7D in retaining the probe-and-drogue midair refueling system of the earlier A-7A/B. It entered service in Southeast Asia in May of 1970 with VA-146 and VA-147 aboard the USS America.
The A-7E participated in the mining of Haiphong harbor in 1972, and played a vital role in the Linebacker I and Linebacker II operations that led up to the formal end of the Vietnam war on January 24, 1973.
Transition from the A-7E to the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet began in 1987.

The Walleye II had a larger body with a 900 kg (2000 lb) MK 87 linear shaped-charge warhead, and much larger fins for further extended glide range.
The Walleye II was built by Hughes under subcontract to Martin Marietta.
After the war ended, the Navy quickly retired the A-7E Corsair, the main launch platform for Walleye, and the missile was subsequently removed from active service in the mid-1990s.

The Ling-Temco-Vought (LTV) A-7 Corsair II was developed under a US Navy requirement for an improved strike aircraft to replace the A-4 Skyhawk.
The A-7E, like the A-7D, was armed with the 20mm M61 Vulcan gatling gun, replacing the two 20mm cannons arming the earlier SLUFs.
I assembled and painted the cockpit per the kit instructions with the help of Bert Kinzey’s A-7 Corsair II in Detail and Scale and A-7 Corsair II Color and Markings titles (available from Squadron Mail Order or your local retailer).

Dunlop’s A-7E Corsair II was shot down over a remote area of Vietnam.
An official report concluded that a crash site excavated by a team of investigators definitely contained the wreckage of the plane Dunlop was flying, said his sister, Gail Hull-Ryde of Jacksonville.
He was the only pilot in an A-7E Corsair II in the area at the time the plane was shot down in April 1972.

(The A-7 Corsair II was a very low tech, seat of the pants bird) While we were on a West Pacific Cruise aboard the USS Kitty Hawk we beat the squadrons from the USS Midway in bombing competition.
This was previously unheard of because the Midway was stationed in Japan and was always on the top of the training, where the Kitty Hawk spent most of it's time in San Diego and only had a year of fleet training at the most for any given crew.
