A Boy and His Dog is a science fiction film directed by L.
The main character, Vic, played by Don Johnson in a notable early role, is an 18-year-old boy mainly concerned with fulfilling his sexual needs, e.g.
He is accompanied by a well-read and wise-cracking telepathic dog named Blood, played by the dog Tiger, --an "experienced female provider." In addition to locating women for Vic to rape, Blood also has the unenviable task of trying to educate Vic and keep him safe from harm.

DVD REVIEW: A BOY AND HIS DOG   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Thanks to video, cable and college campuses, "A Boy and His Dog" found an audience that understood and appreciated its story and motivations.
A testament to the film's strengths is the fact that director George Miller said his "Road Warrior" is basically a remake of "A Boy and his Dog." The cast is amazingly in tune with the concept, especially Johnson, who was still cutting his baby teeth back then.
I doubt the American Film Institute will add "A Boy and His Dog" to their list of films to restore, so I imagine this is the best you're going to get.

Made in 1975, A Boy and His Dog had feminists (and all other sorts) up in arms for the movie’s nihilistic sentiments, derived no doubt from sci-fi legend Harlan Ellison’s novella of the same name.

BOY has essentially the same ending as CASABLANCA, although in the latter film getting rid of the woman is romantically glossed over—i.e., she is renounced, not chopped into dog food.

Whether or not Ellison's complaints have merit, A BOY AND HIS DOG has come to be regarded as a science-fiction classic, its popularity undoubtedly due to its likeable characters who, despite their constant bickering and individual quirks, are redeemed by their committed friendship and their sarcastically humorous approach to survival.
