A Corny Concerto, a spoof of the hit 1940 Disney film Fantasia, shows Elmer Fudd appearing in front of an audience.
Some of these old cartoons I just can't get into anymore, but A Corny Concerto is certainly not one of those.
I don't know how often A Corny Concerto is played on TV, if ever, but it's widely available on a DVD set called Looney Tunes: Golden Collection, Volume Two.

So, it came as a pleasant surprise to me that his Second Piano Concerto (1917), which he must have invested with special effort in the knowledge it was his Opus 100 composition, is a finely crafted, beautiful work in the Lisztian concerto mold.
The cadenza near the close is masterfully fashioned, its drama never sounding calculated or corny, its thematic references always subtle and imaginative.

Nikolai Rubinstein’s opinion of the work was crushing: the concerto was no good, was unplayable, the themes were corny and inappropriate, the material he had come up with was weak, and some of it he had even plagiarized.
The concerto ingeniously links symphonic structure to the principles of the concerto form, while leaving the indisputable role of the leader to the soloist.
As Artist in Residence at the Société Philharmonique in Brussels, he gave concerto performances with the Orchestre National de Belgique and the Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra, and a performance with his string quartet, where they were joined by Tabea Zimmermann.

All I'm saying is a duck is a very common animal, especially in cartoons, and fl is a very common color for ducks, again especially in cartoons.
THIS LOGIC belongs to everybody who voted NO. I said before that I believe that the rabbit in A Corny Concerto is Bugs Bunny, the hunter is Porky Pig, and the duck is daffy duck.
But the flaw in this logic is that Bugs and Porky in "Concerto" retain their normal character designs, and Bugs at least is very much in character.

In this sub-group of the cartoon genre, musical and sonic expectations are raised to a level near the more universal visual expectations.
In these cartoons (i.e., Rhapsody Rabbit, Cat Concerto, A Corny Concerto, Rhapsody in Rivets) visual play and musical play are equals.
We know this music and we know how its supposed to go, but the actions experienced through the animated realities produce new expectations that reflect directly on our past knowledge of the music and forces us to confront an evolving future with our musical expectations.

Speaking of that, we need to make a correction about that list of shorts we originally published : one of the titles listed was "Corny Concerto" (Doc and Champ - 1943).
And the title we gave was close: "A Corny Concerto", starring Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and Elmer Fudd, is the proper way this ought to have been listed.

Pip Clarke, the soloist with the Florida Orchestra this week, is playing Korngold's Violin Concerto, which is drawn from composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold's film scores from the 1930s, including Anthony Adverse, Another Dawn, The Prince and the Pauper and Juarez.

Clarke, an Englishwoman who lives in Los Angeles, enjoys listening to historic recordings by golden-age violinists such as Jascha Heifetz, who premiered the Korngold in 1947.
