CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Philosophy of Immanuel Kant
He is interested rather in judgments such as "All the sides of a square are equal", in which the relation affirmed to exist between the subject and the predicate is necessary and universal.
The Aristotelean philosophers distinguished two kinds of judgments, namely, synthetic judgments, which are the result of a "putting-together" (synthesis) of the facts, or data, of experience, and analytic judgments, which are the result of a "taking-apart" (analysis) of the subject and predicate, without immediate reference to experience.
He contends that analytic judgments of the kind referred to do not advance knowledge at all, since they always "remain within the concepts [subject and predicate] and make no advance beyond the data of the concepts".

Anyway, a new, different Tiamat is presented on 'A Deeper kind of Slumber '.
This kind of slow songs were first introduced on the previous album, but this time every note seems to fall in the right place; what you get on this album, is one mature band which has clearly made progress.
in tempo (from up tempo to really slow tracks) and melodies, there is a constant atmosphere throughout the entire album, a kind of pace that makes you feel at ease and drags you with it until the final notes are played.

Tiamat : Deeper Kind of Slumber - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
A Deeper Kind of Slumber moves Tiamat even farther away from traditional heavy metal, with synthesizers dominating the arrangements and Johan Edlund doing completely away with metal growling in favor of an unearthly croon.
Although it's not very metallic, the music is quite heavy in its own way, creating a numb, sleepy ambience that feels both introverted and resignedly pessimistic; perhaps this is due to Edlund's conceiving the album at home with little outside input, and his relationship difficulties at the time.
A Deeper Kind of Slumber is perhaps a cut below Wildhoney in terms of consistent listenability, but Tiamat certainly cannot be accused of refusing to develop or experiment.

The word on the street was that Tiamat had merged the sound of their past two releases into one collective whole with "Skeleton Skeletron." It was said that the atmospheric death metal of "Wildhoney" and the trippy-ness of "A Deeper Kind Of Slumber" were combined into a broad alterna-metal package.
Apparently, Edlund was having particular difficulty in his personal relationships at the time of recording "A Deeper Kind Of Slumber"; listen to "Atlantis As A Lover" to hear gut-wrenching revelation.
"A Deeper Kind Of Slumber" was produced by Dirk Draeger and co-produced by Johan Edlund.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - TIAMAT - Prey
After "A Deeper Kind Of Slumber" had hit many fans very unprepared, they managed to make up lost ground up to last year's "Judas Christ".
After the short instrumental "Ten Thousand Tentacles" TIAMAT lead us deeper into their very own world of melancholic Gothic Rock, a description that does only partly fit, because of the original sound of TIAMAT, but still most probably comes closest to reality.
The atmosphere and especially Johan Edlund's characteristic and charismatic voice does not even leave the slightest trace of a doubt which band you are just listening to and even though TIAMAT never had been roaming these regions so exclusively, it still is a logical evolution after "Judas Christ".

A visionary with a clever mind and infinite passion towards music that sums up the best of many contrasting shades: darkness and light, bliss and pain, sweetness and agony, white and crimson, angelic and funerary.
“A Deeper Kind Of Slumber” does not want to be cuddled by hardcore Metal heads and neither do they want this soft serenade of a Gothic Rock album, the sole criteria demanded here is your imagination.
Sure TIAMAT was a Metal band in the early years but no more and after releasing some albums in fl dyed Gothic shapes and doing fine as a band, I doubt they’ll ever go back to their past sound.

Maybe I'll get a lot of critical comments about this album being placed in a progressive review list, but in my opinion they will only come from people who don't really understand the true meaning of progressiveness.
The music is hard to describe (you could try something like gothic-trance-progrock/ metal, but that's a lot of crap), but don't worry about the instrumentation, a lot of guitars (electric and acoustic) are used next to the more "non-prog" instruments and sounds.
The singing is perfectly fitting and I've discovered that every now and then it's nice to wander around in this deeper kind of slumber.

Their next album, the atmospheric A Deeper Kind Of Slumber, was perhaps the band's most controversial, as the Floyd-isms were in full effect and opinions on the new direction were sharply divided among fans and critics (personal opinion here -- Slumber is a brilliant album, period).
Next up was Skeleton Skeletron, marking another shift, this time towards a goth-oriented sound, a style furthered on 2002's Judas Christ, with its simpler, more upbeat goth stylings dominating the album.
Edlund has also recorded a solo effort under the name Lucyfire, whose This Dollar Saved My Life At Whitehorse is by all accounts much more a rock record than anything metal-oriented.
