Fish from inland waters provide a major source of animal protein, particularly in areas far removed from the sea.
Nowhere are these trends in resource use and environmental impact more evident than in inland waters, which are particularly vulnerable as they act as collectors of all the activities occurring in their basins and rank as some of the most endangered ecosystems in the world.
Fully international in its coverage, Inland Fisheries is an essential reference manual for all those involved in inland waterway and fisheries management including fisheries officers, environmental scientists and ecologists, aquatic scientists, those working in rivers and lakes authorities and fish and wildlife departments of governments and universities.

The significant decline of the Aral Sea was essentially the result of economically-driven, or power-driven, political leaders from the former Soviet Union.
Initially, the Aral Sea partly regulated the climate in the region by softening the cold Siberian winds during the winter and acted as a conditioner in the summer by lowering the heat.

Finally, my favorite story, "Another Story, or, A Fisherman of the Inland Sea", explores the problem of churten and the marriage arrangements of the people of the planet O, who marry by sedoretu, a bond between two men and two women.
The title of the story is based on a traditional Japanese folktale which Hideo's mother used to tell, about a handsome young fisherman who spends a night with the Queen of the Sea and returns to his village four hundred years later.

THE INLAND SEA occupies a crater-like cavity beneath the cliff where a natural tunnel in the steep rocks allows the sea to penetrate and to form a miniature lake at the bottom of the depression.
Fisherman find the 'Inland Sea' an ideal refuge for their boats, as the sea in that locality can be stormy and dangerous.
When the sea is calm, the fishermen-boatmen ferry tourists through the tunnel into the open sea and to the neighbouring Azure Window.
