A Fistful of Dollars (Per un pugno di dollari in Italy, and officially on-screen in the United States as simply Fistful of Dollars) is a 1964 film directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood.
A Fistful of Dollars, as the initiator of the 'spaghetti western', is referenced elsewhere in popular culture:

Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars is notable for two things: it was the first of a new motion picture subgenre that flourished during the mid-to-late-'60s and it boosted the image of one of America's most durable stars.
A Fistful of Dollars is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo, with guns replacing swords, the setting shifted from Japan to the Old West, and Eastwood standing in for Toshiro Mifune.
The element that differentiates A Fistful of Dollars from the majority of its predecessors is its gritty, un-romanticized view of the Old West.

Leone throws this away in A Fistful of Dollars, establishing the classic moments of the gun looming in the foreground and the men blown away in the background.
MGM first released Leone's 'Dollars Trilogy' back in the early days of DVD and their slightly unsatisfactory transfers have been the only option for fans who want to see the films in the original Techniscope ratios - panning and scanning is particularly ruinous for these movies.
Paramount will be releasing A Fistful of Dollars 2 disc SE in Germany with restored mono sound and reportedly better image than the MGM SE on October 6th.

But compared to the anamorphic The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, A Fistful of Dollars is significantly lacking in sharpness and detail.
Fistful is closer in quality to For a Few Dollars More, except More contains digital artifacts and print blemishes that Fistful is thankfully not burdened with.
I am not really surprised by the scarcity of supplements, but I do wish MGM had given A Fistful of Dollars (and For a Few Dollars More) the same image treatment that it gave to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Eventhough Fist is an almost shot for shot remake of Kurosawa's Yojimbo (which was influenced by American westerns) it introduces us to Clint who as The Man With No Name is the greatest character in all of westerndom....IMO.

Fistful of Dollars is one of those classic films that doesn't quite live up to its reputation.
While there are a number of thrilling and justifiably famous moments, as a whole, the movie just isn't entertaining enough to keep hold ones attention throughout the film's running time.
While there are a couple of riveting action sequences, the majority of Fistful of Dollars' first half is devoted to Joe's wheeling and dealing with the two families.

Sadly, like For A Few Dollars More, A Fistful Of Dollars' transfer can be described as being reasonable at the best of times, and it goes without saying that it would not surprise me to learn that both transfers are merely recycled from laserdisc masters.
Whereas the non-existent surround field of For A Few Dollars More was the worst of that film's problems, it is the least of A Fistful Of Dollars' many problems.

Clint Eastwood reinvented himself several times during his career: as Rowdy Yates in the TV series "Rawhide"; as "The Man With No Name" in a trio of Spaghetti Westerns; as Dirty Harry Callahan, bad boy of the San Francisco police force; as Academy-Award winning director; and finally settling into his role as ultimate screen legend.
"A Fistful of Dollars" features the usual slow posturing of the hero and villains that we've come to enjoy, accompanied by the contrasting dynamic shoot-outs, the customary laconic humor, the beautiful maiden in distress, and the loyal old helper, all tied neatly together by a melancholy whistle in the soundtrack.
Still, I'm going with the publicity department on this one because "A Fistful of Dollars" is how most people know it.

A Fistful of Dollars (1964 Italy/West Germany/Spain 100 mins)
A Fistful of Dollars followed the standard procedure in Italian Westerns of casting an American actor in the lead (usually either an unknown such as Richard Harrison or Jim Mitchum, a B-Western actor like Rod Cameron and Alex Nicol, or a former star who had seen better days such as Joseph Cotton).
When Morricone collaborated with Leone on A Fistful of Dollars, he initiated one of the key aspects of the Italian Western – an operatic score heavily marking the genre as the "opera of violence".

Fistful of Dollars (there's no "A" onscreen, probably a goof by the producer of the animated titles) copies Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo almost shot for shot in telling its wicked tale of an utterly opportunistic gunslinger who wanders into a feud between rival gangs in a woebegotten town.
If the pan'n scan looks particularly grainy, consider that all three of the 'dollar' films were shot in Techniscope, a clever money-saving format that exposed only half of a 35mm frame by pulling down two perfs instead of four, between frames.
Technicolor processing made up the difference in quality when the image was blown up and squeezed into a normal anamorphic projection print, but when a Techniscope film is pan'n scanned, what results is a bleary blowup of an image area smaller than 16mm.
