	Eagles Mere Gathering
		The Gatherings are held twice a year in the spring and fall at The Lodge in Eagles Mere.
		This view of the lake was taken from Lovers Rock wher the legendary history of Eagles Mere says the bride of a young bookeeper was drowned by the capsizing of a sailboat many years ago.
		The water of Eagles Mere has a peculiar "greenish tint" of old ocean, but it is so clear and free from sediment of any kind that it's sandy bottom is clearly visible in many spots.

		The first official Gathering of Eagles (then known as "Great Moments in Aviation History") was held in 1982 when a small faculty and student group was chartered to develop an aviation heritage program.
		The 2004-2005 Eagles have not yet been selected but the Gathering of Eagles events are scheduled for 2-4 June 2005.

	Haines Chamber of Commerce: Alaska Bald Eagle Festival
		As many as 3,000 eagles gather along a four mile stretch of the Chilkat River north of Haines, Alaska each fall to feed on a late run of salmon.
		The river "flats" of the Chilkat River, along the Haines Highway between Miles 18 and 21, are the main viewing area for eagle watchers and are considered critical habitat in the Preserve.
		Bald Eagles are attracted to the area by the availability of spawned-out salmon and open waters in the late fall and winter.

		WASHINGTON — To control a bizarre gathering of eagles, pigs and foxes on the California channel islands, federal wildlife officials may have to kill a protected species in order to save an endangered one.
		The study, appearing in the journal Science, said that the few remaining eagles will be enough to drive the wild foxes into extinction if all of the pigs are moved first.
		Once the pigs are gone, she said, there won't be enough food for breeding pairs of eagles to stay at the channel islands.

		Even Caldwell's enlistment of a senior sergeant (Robert Lansing) to serve as his sounding board is similar to General Savage and Lieutenant Bishop in "Twelve O'Clock High." Unfortunately the marriage sub-plot is boring and steals too much time for the drama of Caldwell's command to match its World War II counterpart.
		"A Gathering of Eagles" is worth viewing however, for a nostalgic look at SAC in 1963.
		From that point on, the viewings of "Gathering" got less frequent, and NONE of the Colonels or LCs tried to be Caldwell again.
