Amazon.com: DVD: Day for Night (1973)
What is most poignant about `Day For Night' are Truffaut's evocative, melancholic scenes of framing a scene, or editing a sequence, another filmmaker would have concentrated on the audience's response to the film, something more important than the actual film.
`Day For Night' is a film that celebrates, not the making of forgettable, commercial cinema as it has been suggested, but the actual process of making a film.
In one poignant, self-conscious scene, Truffaut himself tells Jean-Pierre Leaud, `We are only happy in our work', it's a beautiful scene, and one that summarizes `Day For Night': it is a film about making a film in which the characters are making a film, it is about itself.

Day for Night (1973) : Directed by François Truffaut, reviewed by Nick Burton
Every aspect of his life on and offscreen was informed by cinema, and Day for Night, one of the late director’s very best films, may well be the most engaging behind-the-scenes film ever made.
At one point during Francois Truffaut's Day For Night (La Nuit Americaine), Ferrand, the genial film director played by Truffaut himself, is shown dealing with production problems with his film while he listens to composer Georges Delerue play excerpts of his musical score over the phone.
In short, the soap opera offscreen proves infinitely more compelling than the movie being filmed by these people.

Day for Night is basically an affectionate celebration of the filmmaking process by a director well known for his passionate devotion to it.
The famous film critic Pauline Kael wrote that Day for Night was a movie for the “movie-struck, the essentially naïve – those who would rather see a movie, any movie (a bad one, a stupid one, or an evanescent, sweet-but-dry little wafer of a movie like this one), than do anything else.” Right-on, Pauline.
Day for Night is one of his most beloved films though perhaps lagging behind The 400 Blows in familiarity to the American audience.

 Soap Opera
Despite the fact that the soap opera is demonstrably one of the most narratively complex genres of television drama whose enjoyment requires considerable knowledge by its viewers, and despite the fact that its appeals for half a century have cut across social and demographic categories, the term continues to carry this sexist and classist baggage.
Soap operas are of two basic narrative types: "open" soap operas, in which there is no end point toward which the action of the narrative moves; and "closed" soap operas, in which, no matter how attenuated the process, the narrative does eventually close.

2001 saw him in a regular role in the ITV soap opera, Night and Day, and most recently he appeared in a cameo role in Eastenders--one story has it that he had earlier tried out for a regular role in that series, but was turned down because of his rhyming slang name.
Strangeness: The Encyclopedia of Fantastic Film and Television lists Gareth Hunt as playing the uncredited role of "small boy" in 1977's Count Dracula.
Returning to acting, he achieved some degree of (perhaps dubious) notoriety for appearing, together with Liza Goddard and Una Stubbs, in a number of Nescafé coffee commercials directed by Carlos Pasini Hansen.
