Nightmare is presented on a single-sided, single-layered DVD and is shown in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1.
Nightmare 2 isn't as dark a film as the first one, but it also manages to appear somewhat murky at times; interior shots - particularly those at the high school - seemed most susceptible to this phenomenon.
Nightmare 5 also comes from what was originally a stereo mix, but for some reason, the surround channels seem less dynamic than in the prior picture.

As the Nightmare On Elm Street cycle progressed into this fourth installment subtitled The Dream Master, it's clear that Fred Krueger's persona was shifting from the quintessential bogeyman we saw the first time around to a wise-cracking anti-hero with knives for fingers.
Returning to the gothic backstory of the third installment, this Stephen Hopkins-directed fifth trip down Elm Street finds Alice recently impregnated by her boyfriend Dan, offering Freddy Krueger a means of re-manifesting himself via the dreams of her unborn child (hence, the subtitle The Dream Child).

Writer/director Wes Craven took this scenario after reading newspaper articles of teenagers dying in their sleep after having reported frightening nightmares to create a villain that hunts in people’s dreams, the time when they are the most vulnerable.
New Line is taking the "Nightmare On Elm Street" series very seriously, well knowing it was the foundation on which the success of the studio was originally built upon.
The idea of having a villain who lives in people’s dreams is material for nightmares and Craven mastered these emotions sensationally well, creating a film that oftentimes leaves the audience dangling and wondering whether what they see is a dream or reality.

JoBlo reviews the movie "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors"
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 is the second best of the series and I especially liked the song at the beginning of the film.
"Nightmare" 3 is not the best horror film ever made (The Shining is) and although this film is probably the second best in the series it fails to scare me. The first "nightmare" was excellent and firmly established the sub genre of fantasy/horror making way for other films such as the "Hellraiser" series.
This is the sequel that started off the nightmare on elm street series to being one of the greatest horror series and was the first to make Freddy cool.

If there was one Horror movie icon that ruled the roost in the 1980's it was undoubtedly Freddy Krueger, the evil long dead child-murderer who haunts the nightmares of the teenagers of Suburban Elm Street, and literally kills them in their sleep.
The focus on a suburban or otherwise rural setting, a group of unholy teens being stalked and stabbed to death in elaborate ways by a sub-human murderer, leaving a last remaining girl who is usually the virgin of the group, followed by a final pre-credits scare.
When the characters dream, they are taken into some very ugly and subverted locations of their pretty suburb- their ordinary street becomes pitch fl, deserted and silent apart from malicious whispers, they wander back yards of rustling hedges, overturned bins and decomposing bodies, explore the underground network of cellars, boilers and furnaces.
