The biggest winner of all was ACM "Male Vocalist of the Year" Tim McGraw, whose new album, Place in the Sun, debuts at No. 1 this week with sales of 251,000, according to SoundScan.
The hook-filled album, a compilation of tracks from two of Williams' U.K. albums, will certainly climb up the charts as more singles chase his "Millennium" into the Buzz Bin, but Williams has a hell of a fight ahead of him.
From the top, this week's Top Ten albums (with sales figures) are as follows: Tim McGraw's Place in the Sun (252,000); TLC's Fanmail (174,000); Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (173,000); Ruff Ryders' Ryde or Die Vol.

Since Garth isn't coming out with any new country material this year, if "A Place in the Sun" doesn't score a basketful of awards next year, then country music is hopeless and clueless.
My favorite songs off his new album, besides "Please Remember Me" are "A Place in the Sun", "Carry On", "She'll Have You Back", "Something Like That", "Somebody Must Be Praying For Me", and "The Trouble With Never".

Everywhere may have continued Tim McGraw's streak of hit albums, but it also suggested that he was falling into a bit of a rut.
That doesn't seem to have bothered McGraw, since Everywhere's sequel, A Place in the Sun, is much like its predecessor in its balance of polished ballads, country-pop and uptempo ravers, which are supposed to sound like honky-tonk but are closer to country-rock.
Since the moments that do work are very good, and since it is a stronger overall record than its predecessor, it will be worthwhile for fans, but it doesn't help erase the impression that McGraw won't deliver a truly satisfying album until a greatest-hits compilation comes along.
