A Quaker Action Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Quaker Action Group was founded in Philadelphia during the summer of 1966 to "apply nonviolent direct action as a witness against the war in Vietnam".
AQAG, which was based in the peace committees of the Religious Society of Friends' New York and Philadelphia Yearly meetings, aimed to renew the Society of Friends commitment to its historic peace testimony.
In the early seventies, AQAG, having abandoned its goal of transforming the Society of Friends, evolved into the Movement for a New Society, a self-styled "transformational network" which would play key role in the anti-nuclear movement of the 1970s.

[1] In March, 1969, A Quaker Action Group and other plaintiffs[fn1] filed suit in District Court seeking a declaratory judgment that regulations governing public gatherings in the White House area are unconstitutional, and a permanent injunction against their enforcement by the Department of the Interior.

 A QUAKER ACTION GROUP v. HICKEL, 429 F.2d 185 (D.C. Cir. 1970)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
This case involves an action instituted by several citizens groups seeking declaratory judgment that certain regulations of the Department of the Interior restricting picketing in front of the White House to 100 persons and in Lafayette Square to 500 persons are unconstitutional.
As to the Quaker Action Group, they have no standing to complain since they have not filed any application and the size of their group is unknown.
Thus, in cases where groups of potential demonstrators contain any individual who preaches violence or revolution or has extreme attitudes on confrontation, very difficult problems are presented to the security forces guarding the White House and courts must recognize that obvious fact in the extent to which they would upset Executive action in such matters.

An Introduction to the Religious Society of Friends
Quakers do not establish ranks of saints or prophets, but they respect those persons in the past and present who seem to have this Christlike ability to express religious thinking and to show others the way in which we should try to live.
Although their other religious beliefs and practices are rather different from those of the Quakers, all three groups have increasingly worked together to oppose the use of violence in international, community, and personal affairs, to search for peaceful alternatives to violence, and to provide services and reconciliation which might lessen the resort to violence.
Quakers who kept their ideals intact would then be likely to try to reason with the attackers, to appeal to their better nature (that of God?), to their sense of fairness, to common sense.

 Sustainability and Truth
But as a Quaker organization, QEW has brought a somewhat different set of values and testimonies to bear.
But other Quaker writers have pointed out that, as a rational technique for moderating our demands on natural resources, even sustainability is still not enough.
This suggests why Quakers in general have not warmed up to the word "sustainbility." For many it has failed to evoke a compelling sense of being in a living, loving relationship with the divine in all Creation, in the way that terms like "reverence for life," "ahimsa," and "tikkun" speak to other faith traditions.
