War (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whitfield produced the song, a blatant anti- Vietnam protest, with The Temptations as the vocalists.
The song was included as a track on the March 1970 Psychedelic Shack album, which featured the title track as its only single.
Whitfield re-created the song to match Starr's strong, James Brown -influenced soul shout: the single version of "War" was dramatic, intense, and depicted the general anger and distaste the antiwar movement felt towards the war in Vietnam.

A Song for You (Temptations album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Song For You is a 1975 album by the Motown singing group The Temptations, considered one of their best overall efforts.
This album features a familiar device of the time used to exhibit the versatility of 70's soul groups: one side featurs up-tempo cuts and the other side focuses on ballads.
Several songs on side one such as "Glass House" and "Shakey Ground" featured P-Funk backed dance grooves, while side two had tracks such as "I'm A Bachelor" and "Memories", which that showcased the shimmeringly tight and seemingly effortless smoothness of Temptations' harmony and vocal blending.

Psychedelic Shack (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Psychedelic Shack is a 1970 album by The Temptations for the Motown label.
The song is essentially an overt ode to marijuana use ("One drag/that's all it took/oooh-ooo-ooh I'm hooked").
Track number six, " War ", was a serious anti- Vietnam protest; instead of risking the careers of the Temptations, the song was rerecorded by Edwin Starr before Motown allowed its release as a single.

 The Temptations
The Temptations harmony lineup was made up of a foghorn-voiced lower end (Melvin Franklin, bass; Otis Williams and Paul Williams, baritones), falsetto on top (Eddie Kendricks) and gruff David Ruffin somewhere in between.
He gave the Temptations their first big hit - "The Way You Do the Things You Do." The band’s second album ( The Temptations Meet Smokey) is a good record by Motown standards, though Smokey’s versions of the tunes are generally more subtle and moving.
Album output by Motown was slackening to what was becoming the industry standard of one album per year by performer, but not for Whitfield.

The Temptations   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The Temptations were initially formed from two Detroit-based vocal harmony groups: the Primes (a trio of relocated Alabamans that included Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams) and the Distants (a quintet whose members included Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Elbridge Bryant).
In the years that followed, the Temptations continued touring and recording, although by the 1990s they were essentially an oldies act; only Otis Williams, who published his autobiography in 1988, remained from the original line-up.
In 1998, the Temptations returned with "Phoenix Rising"; that same year, their story was also the subject of a well-received NBC television miniseries.

The Temptations were greeted as representatives of the counter-culture, a trend that climaxed when they recorded Whitfield's outspoken protest against the Vietnam War, "Stop The War Now".
The Temptations still had hits, and "Masterpiece", "Let Your Hair Down" (both 1973) and "Happy People" (1975) all topped the soul charts, but they were no longer a leading force in fl music.
Both of their last two albums charted in the USA giving the group an extraordinary span of success over six decades.

 Temptations Albums Page - 1970s
This album begins the post-Eddie and Paul period, with Damon Harris and Richard Street plugging the holes.
To quote Otis Williams, from his 1988 autobiography Temptations, this album was a "mismatched collection of, pardon my French, sh*t." The nine tracks featured producers ranging from Memphis soul man Steve Cropper to Brian Holland (who with brother Eddie co-wrote the set’s only big single, "Keep Holding On").
Regardless of that, two of those songs, "Paradise" (not a reprise of the 1962 single), and the title track are satisfying listens.

Although many people may still have an image of one particular Temptations lineup, the 1964-1968 group, the group has persevered over everything from exiting members to label indifference.
The first song, "I'm Here," produced by R&B crooner Joe sets the stage for an infinitely likeable album.
Songs like "Your Love" and "Selfish Reasons" are in the same neo-classic, back to the future vein.

The album that preceded this one (Back to Basics) introduced the group's new falsetto lead, Ron Tyson, who is also a remarkable tenor.
To fill the departure of Dennis Edwards, this release introduces the electrifying vocals of Ali Ollie Woodson.
The title track, "Truly for You," retains much of that Temptations magic with its affectionate harp-like guitar rhythms, a romantic confession conveyed in a sincere tone and Ron Tyson's agile, flowing vocals that express the lyrics with honesty and grace.

While many believe the Temptations to be the favorite soul singing group of all time, this assessment of the band's accomplishments is limited considering their substantial impact upon both the look and sound of popular music.
In 1965 the Temptations scored big and gave the world what would become their signature song,; "My Girl." Another Robinson composition, "My Girl" was number one on both the pop and RandB charts.
His swan song with the Temptations was "Just My Imagination," a mellow, flowing tune that showed off the group's skillful harmonies.

The Temptations personal appearances, the temptations
The Temptations were the quintessential Motown vocal group.
During the gilded age of soul music in general and Motown in particular, the Temptations delivered the intricate harmonies of streetcorner serenaders and the polished choreography of a Sixties soul revue.
Over the years, the Temptations suffered a series of tragic losses: the suicide of Paul Williams in 1971; the death of David Ruffin, after years of substance abuse, in 1991; Eddie Kendricks' succumbing to lung cancer in 1992; and the loss of Melvin Franklin from complications following a brain seizure in 1995.

I brought this album because their music takes my breath away, when I am listening to them sing, it exalts me into a thrilling peace of mind and refreshes my spirits, even when I feel depressed.
Their albums are different than other artists because they really put their heart and souls into their music and also have a tendency to keep recreating themselves if anyone out of their group decides to leave.
The one thing that I did hate about the Temptations, (David) His tendency to keep using drugs, even though he was told constantly by one of his group leaders to stop, he kept on taking them and overdosed.

 Home For Christmas
This is my favorite song on the album, and for only one reason: the chorus.
My problem with this song is that anyone who has the nerve to sing "The Christmas Song" better sing it better than The Temptations, 'cause I grew up listening to their album "Give Love At Christmas" since I was a little kid.
In the song, they talk about how they have the stockings hung up, the tree trimmed just right, candles lit, caviar and wine… but the only thing they don't have is the one they love, and no amount of possessions in the world can change that.

My Girl by The Temptations Songfacts
Robinson went on to write many other songs for The Temptations, who for a time were Motown's biggest group.
This was used as the title and theme song of a movie starring Macaulay Culkin.
He claimed that "girl" and "boy" were street terms for heroin and cocaine. He also pointed out that if you listen to the lyrics, the "Temps" never refer to holding hands or kissing as you would with a usual romantic song, just a feeling, and at least that part of it's true.

In Motown hierarchies, the Temptations occupied pretty much the same exalted place at the legendary label as the Lincoln division did at Ford; both had a marquee reputation for class and quality that endured time and trend for decades.
The group was also a tribute to the glorious possibilities of an erstwhile assembly line: the early hits here (including the signature song that gives this 36-track, double-disc anthology its name) were penned by fellow legend Smokey Robinson, supervised by label founder Berry Gordy, and backed by one of music's greatest house bands.
This collection chronicles their journey across several disparate epochs of soul music history, and includes a concise historical note for each song, as well as track-by-track commentary from founding Temptations member Otis Williams.
