TheMovieBoy Review - A Sound of Thunder (2005)
Filmed in 2002 and plagued by unmet release dates for the last year and a half, "A Sound of Thunder" is finally seeing the light of day during the first weekend in September, a notorious dumping ground for distributors' bastard stepchildren.
Directed by Peter Hyams (2001's "The Musketeer"), "A Sound of Thunder" is a DOA dud of monstrous storytelling and nonexistent characterizations, a humiliating claptrap for all involved that looks as if it was made using the cheesiest of special effects available in 1971.
The only sound of thunder destined to be heard will be audiences stampeding in droves out of the theater to escape sheer torture and misery.

Thunder is the acoustic shock wave resulting from the extreme heat generated by a lightning flash.
In addition, the temperature of the atmosphere affects the thunder sound you hear as well as how far away you can hear it.
However, when the air temperature increases with height, called an inversion, sound waves are refracted (bent back toward the earth) as they move due to their faster motion in the warmer air.

A Sound of Thunder is still an intriguing one, but the movie is done in by indifference and incompetence.

With A Sound of Thunder, things are no different: in the year 2038, a cult called Global Entropy has discovered the means to go back into the prehistoric era, when dinosaurs walked the earth.
Their goal is to stop the meteor that killed off the dinosaurs, thus leaving the world in a primitive state.
Interestingly enough, the game is based on an upcoming movie which hasn’t been widely publicized (yet), which means that both game and film could have a few tricks up their sleeves that we haven’t seen yet.

It would be easy to say that A Sound Of Thunder lazily mimics the look of Steven Spielberg's Minority Report (2002), as it contains many of the same futuristic "Jetsons" trappings, but this film has been in the pipeline for nearly five years now.
A series of setbacks, including a writers strike, the subsequent loss of their star, Pierce Brosnan, and then-director Renny Harlin being fired for wanting to take the future-altering dead butterfly out of the mix entirely delayed the movie, and has caused delays in its release a number of times over the last two years.
In that respect, A Sound Of Thunder succeeds.

The Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder," an unnerving morality tale about modern man's arrogant disregard for nature, ends with time-traveling dinosaur hunters returning to the future to discover that by stepping on a single butterfly, they've altered history inexorably.
The sound effects are unintentionally funny (army boots walking on a liquidy surface make a clank-clank-clank sound), and the visuals effects even more so.
These problems and the picture's endless parade of insipid clichés (a sassy computer called TAMI, an expendable cast member who sacrifices himself to save the stars from a gorilla-saur attack) might not matter so much if "A Sound of Thunder" was amusingly bad science fiction, like, say, "Battlefield Earth" or an Ed Wood movie.
