  A Town like Alice
Alice was an interesting place, a real oasis in the middle of nowhere and a great place to spend a few days finding out about the history of such Australian lifelines as the Flying Doctor Service and The School of the Air.
The other important invention to impact on Alice was the building of the telegraph wire which stretched across the country from Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south right through the centre of the country.
Alice was also a vibrant place, it is well known as an innovative place for Aboriginal artwork and there are a number of galleries with the dot paintings, traditional and modern styles and it also has a great atmosphere for nightlife.

July 16, 2006 10:28 PM I was in Alice Springs last Sunday for the markets and spoke to an aging white guy with a middle aged Aboriginal woman sitting mutely with him.
I first went to Alice on a school trip in the 70's where I purchased a wooden snake from an elderly aboriginal woman for 20c because that was all I had in my pocket.
After visiting the Alice, it makes me want to take a year off and do some volunteer work in the communities such as Papunya where the art movement took off and where their paintings are exchanged for millions of dollars while the town is fit for a third world country.

We have spent quite a few days in Alice Springs, so the place is a worthy next entry into the blog.
Alice is a nice place and is growing on us, although it has an interesting weather pattern, in that the southern end of Alice can get totally soaked, like we did when we first arrived here from Coober Pedy.
After some of the rough travels around the West MacDonnell’s a few things need tightening like the spotlights etc. Keeping on top of this is something we heard again at a 4WD talk last Monday night that the campground puts on.

Virginia McKenna and Peter Finch were excellent as the main characters and the rest of the supporting cast were very good too.
I'm glad to have the video, but would very much like to see a DVD come out on it.
The movie is in fl and white but this in no way detracts from the story or the acting.
