One such reference comes from the WB Network series "Gilmore Girls."  Cinema: 'Deeply Idiotic' (August 29 - September 4, 1996)
It's a fine line, but A Very Brady Sequel succeeds spectacularly by using every little insipid tic of the TV show and magnifying it just enough to be eerily reminiscent of the original, but still exaggerated enough to be funny.
The first Brady Bunch Movie revolved around the idea that while the outside world was in the nineties, the Brady's were still blissfully mired in the seventies.
One drawback of A Very Brady Sequel is that it's one gigantic in-joke, and if you had something better to do during the primetime hours of 1969-1974 (or the subsequent re-runs), I can't imagine this movie would be very interesting.

A Very Brady Sequel is full of a lot of off-the-wall humor they don't cross the boundaries and make it distasteful, but they do seem to make fun of The Brady Bunch in a very humorous way.
I love the fact that the show, and the Brady's, are still stuck in the "70's" in every way, clothes, furniture and the way they react to things, even though this is now the 90's.

During the first two seasons, each of the Brady family´s motor vehicles were supplied by Chrysler Corporation: a blue 1969 Plymouth Fury III convertible (which Mike drove) and a light brown 1969 Plymouth Satellite station wagon.
The Bradys kept the 1971 Plymouth station wagon throughout the rest of the series (this vehicle played a central role in the episode "The Fender Benders"), although Mike kept switching cars, which by the 1972–1973 season, were supplied by General Motors.

A Very Brady Sequel | The A.V. Club
The Brady Bunch Movie surprised audiences with its novel notion of transplanting the Bradys—polyester, platitudes, and all—to the Southern California of the '90s, where their neighbors and schoolmates, much like real-life TV viewers, regard them with a mixture of befuddlement, repulsion, and fascination.
Bradyisms, however, are relegated to the background to serve a laborious storyline involving a bad guy (Tim Matheson) impersonating Carol's first husband, and several boring guest appearances (including the omnipresent Rosie O'Donnell) spoil the fun.
A Very Brady Sequel is too often content to rely on strained plot machinations that, given the subject, may be suitably uninspired, but come off as flat anyway.

THE BRADY BUNCH MOVIE arrived in the middle of a slew of T.V.-to-film re-treads, so it was easy to overlook the fact that there was actually a point to it besides gratuitous nostalgia.
Even as the film made referrence to "classic" Brady plots, it also provided the wonderful conceit of sealing the Bradys in a bubble of obliviousness while time had marched on for everyone else, and it made for a genuinely entertaining remembrance of a simpler time with simpler problems.

A Very Brady Sequel - Movie Review
There are enough laughs to be had in this sequel to The Brady Bunch Movie, but it's hardly a riot.
Hustled out only one year after the original, Brady 2 gets to all the gags we didn't quite have time for in the first film: from the surfing accident to cousin Oliver.
The Brady Sequel gets a lot raunchier, too, with a major subplot about Greg and Marcia's seemingly inappropriate budding love affair, and plenty of innuendo outside of that.

The lowbrow highlight of Growing Up Brady, the 1992 Brady Bunch exposé by original cast member Barry Williams (Greg), is the description of his secret rendezvous with Maureen McCormick (Marcia) while shooting the classic Hawaiian vacation episodes.
Coincidentally or not, this limp sequel likewise climaxes in Hawaii, and it stokes the sexual inferno between the eldest Brady stepsiblings, who share an attic bedroom and a moment of spit-swapping hot enough to charbroil Alice's meat loaf.
The irony is that this comparatively witless sequel actually comes closer to evoking the very Brady aesthetic of dumb TV.

 'A Very Brady Sequel' (PG-13)
In the sitcom, which aired between 1969 and 1974, widower Mike Brady and widow Carol Brady united his three sons with her three daughters in one fenced-in, polyester-clad, laugh-track paradise.
"The Brady Bunch Movie," made in 1995, brought the polyester bunch into the cynical ’90s, in which the family (still the same age but living in present-day Los Angeles) remained resolutely inside their time bubble.
The sequel's plot is laughably thin: Schemer Roy talks his way into the Brady household, pretending to be Carol Brady’s believed-dead first husband.

A Very Brady Sequel walks a fine line; it's reverential to the original series, admitting that the Bradys are an integral part of some people's pop culture existences, and are groovy in that way but, at the same time, taking the whole kit and caboodle to the cleaners.
The Brady Sequel is funnier than anything ever made by anyone from Saturday Night Live, but it's also more unsettling and disturbing than Twin Peaks.

 Another `Very Brady' Freak Show
``A Very Brady Sequel,'' which is out on home video this week, is not as fresh or fun as ``The Brady Bunch Movie.'' But the gimmick is still enjoyable: It's the '90s, but the Bradys are still cheerfully stuck in the '70s, wearing bell-bottoms, hip-huggers and loud, psychedelic colors.
Unfortunately, the main thread follows the adult Bradys, who were stiff and corny in the sitcom and can only be stiffer and cornier here.
Still, for those who are tickled by this postmodern take on the Bradys, ``A Very Brady Sequel'' is worth a look.

Take the original Brady Bunch movie, eliminate the originality and cohesiveness, and string the remnants along a rather flimsy plotline, and you've got A Very Brady Sequel, a tired rehash of a film that wasn't all that great to begin with.
As in the original film, the Bradys are frozen in the carefree 70s while the world around them passes by in the cruel 90s.
By the time the Bradys reach Hawaii (prominently featured in all the ads, but not the movie), they seem to have run out of ideas and stoop to borrowing from other kitschy old sitcoms.

It walks a line between evoking the old TV show and kidding it and it's as surprisingly lively a sequel as the original was for a big-screen treatment of an old TV staple.
But then neither do the Bradys, who maintain an impossible squeaky-clean cheeriness that comes from never allowing the real world into their little microcosm of control-freak heaven.
This sequel has almost as many screenwriters as there are Bradys, but it gets the important thing right, namely keeping the Bradys out of step with everything but one another.
