Oakley is dedicated to serving the people, the land, the growth of industry with respect and commitment to the family and the well being of economic investment.
Oakley's gently rolling hills are crisscrossed by country lanes and patch-worked with vineyards and orchards---though new schools and neighborhoods now share what was once a farming landscape.
The City of Oakley is in its infancy, though Oakley's bountiful agricultural community has a rich and interesting history.

"Oakley Hall is the closest person I can think of as a successor to Wallace Stegner, not only in his personal character but in his serious literary attention to the West," said Jack Hicks of the English department at UC Davis.
Hall has directed the Squaw Valley Community of Writers for nearly 30 years and was, for 20 years, the director of writing programs at UC Irvine.
Hall wrote a short paper about the origins of "Separations" in which he described how his various historical interests became part of a single narrative.

 Oakley Hall - s/t (Bulb)
Oakley Hall is as unashamedly hokey as the Old West novelist from which the band took their name but, just like those novels, this ragtag bunch of musicians are a damn good time.
In the case of Oakley Hall the context is Brooklyn, Bulb Records, and the noise-rock band Oneida.
Holding strong at eight members Oakley Hall has the same collective, brotherly feeling as a great bluegrass or string band and, as the album was recorded completely live in a Brooklyn loading dock, you can hear the excitement and camaraderie inherent in getting that many friends together at the same time.

Oakley Hall, Ambrose Bierce and the Queen of Spades /Ambrose Bierce and the Death of Kings
Oakley Hall uses San Francisco of the 1880s and 1890s as the setting for Ambrose Bierce and the Queen of Swords and Ambrose Bierce and the Death of Kings, two mysteries featuring the journalist, satirist, and short story writer Ambrose Bierce as an amateur detective.
Oakley Hall, Ambrose Bierce and the Queen of Spades /Ambrose Bierce and the Death of Kings
Hall can bring a past era to life in great detail, without requiring that the reader be a history expert or burying the reader in so much detail that the plot and characters are drowned out.

Oakley Hall: Oakley Hall: Pitchfork Review
Oakley Hall is a good-natured band from the countryside of Brooklyn, New York.
Oakley Hall are neither ironic nor revivalist, but recordings like this don't work without an appreciation for traditionalism.
To that end, Oakley Hall keeps "Foolish Heart" on a red-and-white gingham keel not far from your average roadhouse, and "5 Sided Die" is well-executed, if straightforward roots-rocker.

Oakley Hall, Ambrose Bierce and the One-Eyed Jacks
Oakley Hall amply demonstrates this skill in bringing Ambrose Bierce back for a third time as a detective/newspaperman in Ambrose Bierce and the One-Eyed Jacks.
Hall follows the earlier novels' pattern -- Bierce and Redmond are called in to investigate a crime, Redmond becomes romantically involved with a woman who appears unconnected to the crime, and the widening investigation pulls all of the characters and events together in time for Bierce to solve the crime.
Hall's quick-paced and sharp dialog is the perfect backdrop for Bierce.

 Alibris: Oakley Hall
Oakley Hall, writing teacher emeritus, invites readers as his apprentices to study the inner workings of fiction, the foundation upon which all good stories depend.
by Hall, Oakley M. In this "stand alone" novel, Andrew Livingston, scion of a New York banking family, goes West to the Bad Lands and encounters dangerous territory, a bitter range war and the clash of ideals and dreams of the Dakota Territory settlers.
"Like a muse for the writer, Oakley Hall thoughtfully leads us past the sinkholes of cliches, flat prose, and self-conscious writing and guides us toward the magic of vivid and original storytelling.

During the winter months, Hall and his wife live in San Francisco in a cottage on Russian Hill built in 1865 that survived the great earthquake and fire.

Warlock (Western Literature Series) Top 10 Bestselling Books: Warlock (Western Literature Series)
Oakley Hall’s virtuosic performance is both a remarkable comic pastiche and tragic allegory of American self-deception—a book that looks back to Moby Dick and forward to genre-bending postmodernist inventions.
A twisted pulp epic, in which the fantasy world of the Western is revealed as the perverse unconscious of American life, Oakley Hall's Warlock is one of the most unusual and remarkable inspirations of recent American literature.
Every reader of _Little Big Man_ should also read Oakley Hall's masterpiece of Western literature.

 The Union - Prospector
Hall was able, however, to finish his verse play, "Grinder's Stand (A Tragedy of Blood)," which questioned the popular opinion that American frontiersman-explorer Meriwether Lewis killed himself.
Hall, who would later be admitted to three hospitals for multiple reconstructive surgeries, suffered immense memory loss.
Film footage includes Hall's work almost two decades later with Foothill Theatre Company, which presented "Grinder's Stand," the play Hall was revising the night he mysteriously fell from a Lexington, N.Y., bridge and suffered severely debilitating brain injuries in 1979.

How Fiction Works by Oakley Hall, 1582972931, Lowest Book Price Finder
Oakley Hall offers one of the best introductions to fiction I've read.
Hall unpicks and explains each aspect, from point of view, characterisation, writing for the senses, use of words, etc., with plenty of examples, and quite a display of acerbic wit.
It is not a guide to the publication process, but rather an analysis of how fiction works - the tools of the trade, the crafts, the skills which have to be understood in order to make writing work.

Bill Rose set out to film Oakley Hall III's demise, but what he found was rebirth
On a summer night in 1978, Oakley Hall III, then 28, suffered head injuries that ended his life as a playwright when he fell from a bridge near the theater he directed in upstate New York.
The story traces Hall's path from the talented but troubled firebrand of the theater world he was in the late 1970s, to the soft-spoken, reflective presence he is today.
But in Hall's case, the fall is literal, and his story doesn't end when he hits the ground.

The Best Reviews: Oakley Hall, Ambrose Bierce And The Death Of Kings Review
Oakley Hall has written a pleasant tale that will satisfy sub-genre fans, especially those that prefer the historical setting to the mystery setting.
The Best Reviews: Oakley Hall, Ambrose Bierce And The Death Of Kings Review
The prime story line is exciting, but subplots involving unrelated scenarios to the missing princess theme slow down the novel even as it provides greater understanding of the era.
