The motorways are prefixed by M and the principal other roads by the letter A. The roads A1 to A6 radiate from London with A1 as the axial route of the country, running between London and Edinburgh.
At Grimsthorpe village, the A151 is in the second of the main valleys dissecting the plateau, that of the East Glen river.

A1 road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Improvements to the road north of Newcastle upon Tyne were planned where the road consists mostly of single carriageway sections as opposed to a combination of dual carriageway and motorway to the south.
This is the most recent upgrade of the road, which upgraded the previous two-lane dual carriageway, much of which was on a substandard alignment to a dual 3-lane motorway.
A proposal to replace the road with a parallel motorway between Baldock and Alconbury thus giving a continuous motorway to Peterborough, was dropped as too expensive, despite the very poor alignment and accident record on this section.

 West Street, Bourne
On busy days, or if roadworks are taking place or a delivery vehicle parks illegally for a long period, this stretch of road is liable to become a traffic jam at any moment and as a result, the rest of the town soon becomes gridlocked for long periods.
Further along West Street on the other side of the road is a stone built Georgian town house dating from the early 19th century.
The facility was phased out in 1985 and the building sold to private developers who sympathetically converted it into maisonettes with bungalows in the grounds, mainly for retired people, which were opened in 1989.

One stretch of this road is so narrow that is has passing places for cars while the other section runs through a residential area where old people and mothers with pushchairs are a familiar sight and children frequently play in the street.
There is hardly a country road in the locality that is not affected by this perilous situation at this time of the year and the tell-tale trail of dirt and fallen clods from tractor and trailer wheels can even be seen on some main roads, creating a serious risk to cars and other vehicles.

The rest of the walk followed byways and roads south for a couple of miles; a quite boring walk, although most of the roads were quiet, and the by-ways were only busy with the ever-present suburban dog walkers.

Now multiplexes with A6006 west of Melton, and Colsterworth-Bourne is now A151.
