Airbus A320 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Type certificate for the A320 is awarded by JAA on February 26, 1988.
After entering the market in March of 1988 with Air France, the A320 family rapidly expanded: the 185-seat A321, launched in 1989; the 124-seat A319, launched in 1993; and the 107-seat A318, launched in 1999.
In service the A320 family was praised by passengers as it has wider cabin and bigger overhead stowage bins compared to other airliners of the same class.

Airbus A320 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The Airbus A320 is a short to medium range commercial passenger aircraft manufactured by Airbus.
The A320 has given rise to a family of aircraft which share a common design but are a little smaller (the A319), a lot smaller (the A318), or a little larger (the A321).
The lighter weight of the A318 gives it an operating range 10% greater than the A320, allowing it to serve some routes that the A320 would be unable to: London-Jerusalem and Singapore-Tokyo, for instance.

When Airbus launched the A320 in 1984, it was strategically positioned as a rival of the Boeing 737 and McDonnell Douglas MD-80.
In addition to a good launch timing, the success of the A320 was also aided by the implementation of a cabin that is seven and a half inches wider than other single-aisle aircraft.
When the A320 was first introducted, it had to compete against the Boeing 737s that were already established in the field.

FYI - one of many of the reasons that FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) was developed for aircraft engines was because of all of the hot dog pilots that kept damaging engines by slamming the throttles open and burning them up (Also saves a lot of control cables which could break).

JetBlue landing problem may be attributed to A320 flaw - Avion - Aeronautica
Airbus Industries acknowledged a potential malfunction in the Airbus A320 fleet's landing gear, but has declined further comment pending an NTSB probe into Wednesday's landing gear malfunction that forced an emergency landing for one of Jetblue's Airbus A320 aircraft at Los Angeles International.
In a well-televised ordeal, the aircraft was shown circling, and initial television media broadcasts inaccurately reported the A320 was dumping fuel, a capability the aircraft does not have.
According to the FAA, similar landing gear problems were experienced by a Jetblue Airbus A320 on Nov. 1, 2002, and a United Airlines A319 on Nov. 21, 2002.
