	Airbus A340 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The first published studies for the A340 were as the TA11 in 1981, in the November issue of Air International (coinciding with the display of the A300 at that year's Farnborough Air Show).
		Airbus' engineers designed the A340 in parallel with the twin-engined A330: both aircraft share the same wing and similar fuselage structure, and borrow heavily from the advanced avionics developed for the A320.
		One of two initial versions of the A340, the A340-200, with 261 passengers in a three-class cabin layout has a range of 7,450 nautical miles (13,000 km).

		On a personal level, I tend to like the A340 since they are the closest thing to the old 707 jets I grew up seeing flying all over the US (A340 also have 4 engines on the wings....very rare to see 4 winged engines nowadays except on 747 and DC-8 cargo jets).
		I flew A340 on AF and SQ and B777 on UA, SQ, CX and AA.
		I flew AF first class on the A340 and I must say that the cabin is too small for my liking, indeed there are only six seats in a 2x2x2 configuration, and the galley is in the front, so I found it noisy.

		When I went to Mauritius 2 weeks ago, our AF 747-400 took off 25 minutes after the A340 of Air Mauritius and we land 11h10 after, 25 minutes before it, probably the cruise speed of the boeing is faster than the Airbus.
		Not entirely clear of the reasons for this, as the intrinsic performance of the A340 should be at least as good, say, as a 767.
		I made an A340 flight in a full-flight simulator with MTOW and found that 2400+ fpm are no problem once cruising configuration is set.

		It was our first opportunity in the WAR series to see this model of the A340 in a program.
