Digital Cameras - Canon PowerShot A40 Digital Camera Review, Information, Specifications
The A40 (and its slightly lower-end cousin the A30) are a continuation of the A20 and A10 introduced in 2001.
The A40 also features a 10-second self-timer, which delays the shutter for about 10 seconds after the Shutter button is pressed, letting you zip around and jump into the shot.
The A40 is a great option for consumers new to digital photography who don't want to limit their exposure options or compromise image quality.

A40 road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The A40 is a trunk road connecting London to Fishguard in the United Kingdom.
It is one of the few remaining of the "old" trunk routes not to have been superseded by a direct motorway link, though some parts, such as the southern section from London to Oxford are served by the M40; and the A40(M) nearer the centre of London.
Brecon - The A40 continues from the west side of Brecon for 8 miles until you come to Sennybridge.

A40   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
A40 was entered service from Prince Alfred Road garage in November 1954 and became known as the silver bullet due to the fact that it was entirely unpainted (not because of it top speed!).
When new, A40 was totally unpainted externally (apart from its wheels) but to improve its appearance it received a green band between the decks in 1956.
A40 was the last remaining former Liverpool Corporation AEC Regent III still in service when it was withdrawn from service at the beginning of May 1974.

 Canon Powershot A40
The spec for the A40 says that in Macro mode, the minimum focusing range is 16cm at wide angle and 26cm at full optical zoom, though I find the borderlines are more like 11.5cm and 20cm, as measured from the front of the lens.
For instance with the zoom at 16.2 mm, if a subject at 8 ft is placed in front of a distant background, and the focusing square is positioned on the background, the A40 may succesfully focus on the background (double beep), leaving the subject out of focus.
The A40 has an internal memory of 4MB, and this is why movies are limited to 16 and 32 seconds.

CanadianDriver: Motor Memories - Austin A40
The 1948 A40 came as the 2-door Dorset and the 4-door Devon.
The A40 arrived at a propitious time because we were still suffering a shortage of new cars caused by the industry shut-down during the war.
Their prosperity was short lived, however, and in 1951, even the addition of the smart little A40 sportster couldn't keep North American sales from falling to 6200.

 SABRE - Road Lists - The First 99 - A40
The A40 originally started at the Bank of England, meeting the A3 and A4 there, and ran along the line of the old Roman road to Oxford and beyond.
The A40 is devoid of good overtaking opportunities, and the Northleach bypass seems to be built on continuous shallow bends as a narrow 2 lane road.
The A40 dual carriageway continues as far as St Clears, where it splits, the A477 going left for Pembroke (this is the original line of the A40), and the present A40 going right for Whitland, Narberth (where the original route of the A40, now the B4314 rejoins) and Haverfordwest.

Digital Cameras - Canon PowerShot A40 Digital Camera Test Images
This shot is always a very tough test of a camera's white balance capability, given the strong, yellowish color cast of the household incandescent bulbs used for the lighting, and the A40 produced surprisingly accurate color with the Incandescent white balance setting.
The A40 captures a lot of fine detail throughout the frame, with good overall sharpness from corner to corner.
Optical distortion on the A40 was moderate at the wide-angle end, where I measured approximately 0.59 percent barrel distortion.

The lens size and optical zoom of the A40 are the same as the A20's, but the A40 has a ring release lever at the base of the lens housing, which replaces the previous screw'out ring.
The software bundled with the A40 includes Canon's RemoteCapture program, that lets the computer control the camera's shutter release when the two are connected together, and loads the images directly to a folder on the PC.
The focus is slightly soft and the tabel edge and panels are both curved from barrel distortion.

The Canon A40 is the first digital camera that I have used with a display that is actually visible in bright sunlight.
While the resolution of a standard television set doesn't do justice to the images the A40 creates, it is a lot of fun to sit back on your sofa and do an instant review of the images you just took on your afternoon hike.

 Austin A40 Cambridge
When it arrived, the A40 Cambridge was the third-generation Austin A40, and the first to have been designed under the umbrella of the BMC organization.
Compared with the superseded A40 Somerset it was new from stem to stem, and there was neither a family likeness, nor many significant carry-over mechanical components.
Although the A40 Cambridge sold well enough, it was overshadowed by the success of the larger-engined A50 version, and when the time came to restyle the shell for early 1957, the A40 itself was discontinued.

Canon's new entry-level PowerShot A30 and A40: Digital Photography Review

Both the PowerShot A30 and A40 feature high quality 3x optical zoom lenses covering the range 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) with a bright maximum aperture of f2.8.
