After leaving the restored Brynderwyn Lock, the canal travels along side the A483 Trunk road for a short distance in the direction of Newtown before it is crossed by the " New Road Bridge" that used to carry the main road into and through Abermule.

Although this might seem strange, it was done because there was a big threat of a bypass road being built which had the possibility of using the canal's course from Welshpool to Abermule, thus it was vital to open up the canal and use it.
The new road was to be built to the north of the village and would cross the canal several times on route.
The canal had to be re-routed along a brand new 300 yard cut, this left the original stretch unused though it was to be kept as a mini nature reserve to preserve the wildlife which had established since the canal's closure.

Leave Oswestry on the A483 Welshpool road, at Llynclys by the White Lion public house turn right on to the A495 as continue on this road which becomes the B4396 through the village of Llangedwyn and for a further two miles on to the small hamlet of Pentrefelin.

One of the key supporting elements in the regeneration proposals is the development and improvement of the Trunk and Principal road network serving the town and its surrounding settlements, in order to improve access to the A48/M4 corridor.
The northern link from Pantyffynnon to the A483 Trunk Road just to the south of Llandybie is currently being reappraised and a report on the feasibility and desirability of this link will be produced once the reappraisal exercise has been completed.
The Ammanford Outer Relief Road is considered to be a strong candidate for support from this programme because of the clear job creation potential which the scheme will create.

One of the key elements in the Council's proposals for the economic regeneration of Ammanford and the Amman Valley, is the development and improvement of the turnk and principal road network serving the town and its surrounding settlements.
The scheme involves the construction of a number of new highway links, by-passing the A483 trunk road and the A474 principal road, so as to alleviate traffic congestion in the town, and to open up opportunities for economic regeneration.
The proposed distributor road commences at Cooper's Corner on the A483 trunk road and runs to the south of Tycroes and Pantyffynnon before crossing the Afon Llwchwr and Heart of Wales line in quick succession, and continuing along the west bank of the river Amman to connect with Park Street and the A474 at Pontamman.

Parallel local roads to be built alongside the widened section between east of Fenstanton and junction 14 of the M11.
Although the orbital bypasses will be smaller in scale than their predecessors withdrawn from the national trunk road programme in 1998 and roadspace on the existing network will be reallocated to buses, cyclists and pedestrians, with the aim of providing no extra road capacity overall, nonetheless locally damaging effects will be felt.

From Chester, we take the A483 road to Oswestry (Croeswallt), a town east of Offa's Dyke (the eighth century border between England and Wales), but one that stubbornly has held on to its Welsh identity right up to the present.
This village was once the parish of vicar (and later Bishop) William Morgan (1545-1604), the place where he worked on his translation of the Holy Bible into Welsh that became one of the deciding factors in the survival of the language.
A motor road around the shores of the lake provides a pleasant, unhurried drive before we return to crowded Chester or to our hotel in Wrexham.

Walk westwards along the A483 Fabian Way for a few miles as it passes to the south of a works and then the north of the docks.
When the road crosses the River Tawe turn left to walk along the western bank of the river until the old docks are reached.
Turn right down this road and follow it past the South Dock Marina until it approaches the coast, and then turn left to join the promenade along the coast.

No certainly not, It is down to the A483, a road in the middle of welsh wales..
With roofs off we were rewarded with fast open sweeping bends, long wide smooth straights and challenging corners all on excellent surfaced roads that wound their way through sleepy countryside, that last week roared to the thunder of 16 cylinders at full chat breaking the crisp cold late february sunshine.
Another great road is the B road (can't remember the route number)running between Penzance and Lands End.

The A483 road north of Llanbadarn Fynydd in Powys has been closed until the beginning of September for vital repairs.
Brecon and Radnor MP Roger Williams said the road closure was hitting tourism hard.
After the meeting, an assembly spokesman said it had been agreed that a local diversion - along an unclassified road from Llanbadarn Fynydd - would be signposted to attract more traffic while the road repairs are carried out.

Sadly, its present course now ends at the feeder from the Penarth Weir below the site of the Freestone Lock from where to Newtown the course has mostly been obliterated although most of the towpath is still traceable before reaching Newtown itself where the basin and wharf areas have dissappeared below housing development.
On the opposite side of the road to the previouse photo, part of the bridges wall is still evident, incorporated into the garden boundry.
This road sign "LOWER CANAL ROAD" is the only evidence that remains of the canals terminal basin at Newtown.

It seems that a ropemaker, glassmaker and stone mason were on a pilgrimage to one of Wales's holy sites, when all three fell ill. They consequently made a pact that the survivors would provide a decent burial and a properly marked grave for the deceased.
It is but a scant few miles by road from Chester to the village of Gresford, the home of our seventh wonder, the bells of the Parish Church of All Saints.

Hundreds of motorists are to be repaid their £60 speeding fines after a clerk realised temporary speed limit warning signs had been put in the wrong place.
Speed cameras were placed at road works on the A483 Wrexham bypass, where the limit had been cut from 70mph to 40mph.
She said: "An officer working for the North Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership recently identified an error in the location of temporary signage on the A483 northbound road works.

 Oswestry Borough Council - Policy TR9: Traffic Management - Eastern Oswestry
The route of a new road between Eastern Oswestry/Harlech Road and the Whittington Road, as shown on the Oswestry Town Inset Map, will be protected from development.
Whilst this means that the Borough Local Plan can no longer protect a proposed route for this scheme, the Borough Council will continue to press for its reintroduction given the traffic levels in the village, and the fact that Whittington is a village of outstanding character and visitor interest.
This recognises the Trunk Road's national and international function and could attract investment to allow the road to function properly at the local, national and international level.
