To minimise disruption, the scheme will be combined with a scheme to re-surface the A570 Rainford By-Pass between the A580 East Lancashire road and Mill Lane.
The aim of the scheme is to improve facilities for traffic turning right off the A570 onto the A580, improve facilities for pedestrians and to address the problem of rear-end shunt accidents at the traffic signals.
The works will include modifications to the splitter islands, the re-configuration of the traffic signals and the application of high-friction surfacing material on the approaches to the signals.
