The A590 Low/High Newton Bypass, Campaign concerning, The Lakeland, Ulverston and Furness areas of Cumbria
The case for a bypass of High and Low Newton was first published by Government in 1976, and Furness Enterprise began to lobby for improving the A590 when the development agency was formed in 1991 and gave evidence at the 1993 public local inquiry into the scheme.
It aimed to persuade HM Government to fund a bypass of High and Low Newton on the A590 in South Cumbria because it was one of the worst lengths of the route for accidents.
The A590 is a "through route", linking the industrial area of Furness to the rest of the UK.

 Commodore: A590
The A590 is a hard drive controller which connects to the side expansion slot of the A500(+).
The A590 was usually shipped with a 20MB Seagate SCSI drive by default or a 20MB Western Digial XT drive but the drive specifications are printed on the base of the unit.
When the switch is in the OFF position the time-out period, the time between power-on and when the system checks the drive, is short.

Since Commodore released the A590 hard disk unit, a great number of Amiga users have bought one (I personally know of at least six people who have done so within the past month).
Although I'll be using the A590 to demonstrate how the technique works, the approach described here can be applied to any other type of hard disk with only minimal changes; the principle remain the same.
The A590 currently comes with either an Epson or Western Digital hard drive unit installed, and these are configured slightly differently.

Self-powered A500 SCSI controllers.   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The intention was to power an A500 SCSI controller and hard drive off the same power supply that powers the A500, eliminating the 2nd power supply and it's attendant compexity and snarls of cables.
The A590 unfortunately does not have the convenient jumpers like in the GVP, so the work is a little more difficult.

David Jamieson - whose job it is to decide whether the £15 million bypass scheme is given the go ahead — conceded that the A590 was a “problematic” road.
Mr Jamieson said there were “a lot” of road schemes similar to the bypass being considered for inclusion in the Government’s Roads Programme.
The latest in 1993 concluded that the A590 was a substandard road.

The A590 on the other hand drops downwards, meets the railway line just as it emerges from a short tunnel, and begins a new phase in its life.
My only memory of the A590 is from last year when me and some mates were en route from a blast over Hardknott Pass back towards Morecambe for lunch, but from my "on the ground" sightings it didn't look like the road had changed much west of Low Newton.

Then I tried to learn how I could fit in a large SCSI drive with this controller and soon I learned that the v6.0 roms I had on the a590 are no good, and I had to get hold of Ralph Babel’s Guru roms, to be able to use this drive at its peak performance.
On the way, I realised that I had to upgrade the DMAC chip on the a590 to be able to use the guru roms (which was rev 1, guru rom demanded rev 2).
Then I noticed the scsi chip on board the a590, and I thought I should replace it from the a2091 board as well, cause maybe the rev 2 DMAC chip needs to works with a specific scsi chip.
