  walks - kintail
Sue parked her car in the lay-by on the south side of the A87 Glen Shiel Road just east of the bridge over the Allt Mhalagain and I drove her to the start of the walk, which was the private road to Cluanie Lodge just east of the Cluanie Inn.
The road was followed for around six kilometres to just west of the bridge over the Allt Giubhais where a small cairn marked the start of a stalker’s path.
The starting point of the walk was the A87 just east of the Cluanie Inn at the beginning of the old road that ran from Cluanie to Tomdoun prior to the area being flooded for a dam.

The A87 is a major road in the Highland region of Scotland.
It runs west from its junction with the A82 road at Invergarry, along the north shores of Loch Garry and Loch Cluanie, then to the Kyle of Lochalsh before crossing the Skye Bridge to Kyleakin, Broadford, Sconser and Portree, before terminating at Uig on the west coast of Skye.

Roads on Skye have been branded a disgrace and potentially fatal by angry island drivers, and one senior councillor described the money Highland Council are able to spend on road maintenance as a "splash in a puddle".
Trunk roads are the responsibilty of BEAR Scotland who, according to a spokesman, spent £26.4 million last year on maintaining the roads in the North West Unit, which includes Skye and Lochalsh.
As local roads authorities, each council is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of the local roads in its area.

All along that main road (A87) the scenery is similar, and a little further round the corner from this scene, travelling inland, are the five sisters.
If you wanted to climb it, you need to go right along the road along past the rock, and as you go round, there is a thick Christmas tree forest, and a large car park, there is a steep path to the top from there.
Going back along the A87 probably means that by now you are hungry and thirsty, but this be no problem as 65 miles along the A87 (believe me, the distances sound big, but in that scenery, it aint!) the Redburn Cafe is open all day every day to people wishing to stop and eat.

Skye Bridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
With the construction of road and rail connections to Kyle of Lochalsh toward the end of the 19th century, various parties proposed the construction of a bridge to the island.
Although the engineering task was well within the capability of the age (the crossing is shorter and shallower than that bridged by the Forth Bridge), the island's remote location and its small population meant the cost of a bridge could not be justified.
Although the bridge itself was built with PFI, the approach roads were the responsibility of the Scottish Office, which paid £15 million for the roads and associated improvements, and to cover the costs associated with decommissioning the ferry.

With nine Munros on the south side, seven of them capable of being climbed in one day-long expedition, and 12 on the north, the area is not only convenient for the car-borne enthusiast but boasts some of the finest ridge-walks in the western highlands.
With similar characteristics to their northerly sisters, it is possible to climb the hills of this group along with the Five Sisters, but that’s a huge and strenuous day.
Most guide books suggest climbing these hills from the A87 road but I prefer to climb them from the north, from that wonderful little sequence of glens that climb up into Glen Affric – Gleann Lichd, with its chasms and waterfalls, and the Fionngleann with its marvellously situated bothy at Camban.
