From Inverness the A9 runs across, through or near the Moray Firth, the Black Isle, Tore, Muir of Ord, Conon Bridge, the Cromarty Firth, Easter Ross, Dingwall, Evanton, Alness, Invergordon, Nigg Bay, Fearn, Tain, the Dornoch Firth, Sutherland, Dornoch, The Mound, Golspie, Dunrobin Castle, Brora, Helmsdale, Caithness, Berridale, Dunbeath, Latheron, Mybster, Georgemas and Thurso.
Evanton and Alness are north of the A9.

I didn't remember ever signing up with A9, and a quick look through my password safe showed that I didn't have a separate user name for it.
A9 is a wholly owned Amazon subsidiary, so technically they are the same company.

More on A9 The blogosphere continues to chew away on A9, and I think it will take some time for the new service to fully reveal its more interesting features.
What gets me thinking is that for those who commit to A9 as a search solution, new and continuous improvements in search are likely to be hacked up, based on the fact that the personalized history can be analyzed and leveraged.
Manber is quite insistent that A9 is a very early piece of work, the result of 30 folks banging away for 90 days, but that it's quite robust, and will evolve very quickly in the next year.

I think you'll either love a9 (this is the greatest!) or find it not all that impressive (what's the big deal?).
a9 has taken ideas available from disparate services (remote bookmark storage, being able to add and store notes about pages, see results from various databases) and has placed them within easy reach of the web searcher as they search.
It would be also be exciting for a9 to work with libraries and create customized versions that would allow the researcher to access and search databases that the library licenses.

A9 gives me the initial feeling that I would never be able to generate a search that will fulfill their needs.

Despite the original stories about A9 from last year talking about how Amazon was taking on Google with A9, A9 actually appears to just be a different interface for Google, with some tie-ins to Amazon.
Update: Reading more into the features of A9, there are some other funky features in the toolbar that they launched with it that I'm positive will upset some privacy folks.
The Eula for the a9 toolbar basically says that as long as the bar is installed, _every_ site you visit will be sent to a9.com.

Adjustable Columns: The A9 web site says, "Simply drag the boundaries between the columns either to the left or the right to change their width of the different result sets (web, books, history)." Nice touch.

He wrote a great roundup of the fun that people are having with the A9 local search.
On Google's trademark rules they say "Use the trademark ONLY as an adjective, NEVER as a noun or verb, and NEVER in the plural or possessive form." The OC would have likely been hearing from Google's lawyers if they had used Google as a verb.
