The A90 is a major road in Scotland.
The A90 was extended considerably in the early 90's, as it originally stopped at Inverkeithing.
The former A85 went from Perth to Dundee, the A929 Kingsway went through Dundee and then towards Forfar, the A94 went from Forfar to Stonehaven, and the A92 from Stonehaven to Fraserburgh - it should be noted that the A92 did not go to Peterhead.

There are few gaps in the traffic travelling on the A90, but vehicles tend to reduce speed to allow the traffic to merge from the A975 thus increasing the journey time for vehicles travelling south on the A90.
The traffic travelling northbound on Ellon Road through the roundabout is not significant enough to cause any congestion although there is again a safety concern associated with vehicles queuing in the internal area of the roundabout.
The road space from the Haudigan roundabout through the Mugiemoss Road/Persley Bridge roundabout is fully saturated from 7:45am onwards and continues past 9:00am with the traffic moving slowly.

A new interchange at Inchmichael on the A90 Perth to Dundee road was officially opened today two months ahead of schedule.
Because of the proximity of adjacent properties, a loop layout was used to avoid demolishing West Inchmichael Cottages or major realignment of the dual carriageway.
The design included realigning existing side roads, allowing original accesses, crossing points and junctions to be either closed off or modified.

If you look on a map, the A952 now runs straight, but before the A92 was numbered A90, the A92 ran in the straight section and the A952 went to Peterhead from either side of it.
They expanded the junction, but traffic on this section of A90 can do 70-80 easily, and often they don't see the traffic on the A952 southbound due to bushes/etc obscuring the southbound bit at the junction.
The original route for the A957 ended on the old A943 South Deeside Road about three miles west of the Durris crossroads, although historically the Slug Road has ended at various points as far west as Bridge of Feugh (Banchory).

Given the substandard nature of the approach roads, especially from the south, the bridge, in terms of construction, width and load carrying capacity, and the lack of opportunity to upgrade without major environmental impact the offer was declined.
While the completion of this section of the A90 may lead to little improvement in journey times from the north as there are no plans from Scottish Executive to improve any of the trunk network south of Balmedie, it may assist in improving overall journey times for public transport from the north.

Elsewhere in the city, Queenferry Road (A90) between Cramond Brig and Blackhall, and Maybury Road and Telford Road (both A902) are all 4-lane.
Curiously, some of the road markings on Westeminster Bridge suggest this is the A23, but most signs and maps give it as the A302.

The roads authority is recommending that no significant development around the western fringes of the city should be approved until a comprehensive integrated study into the impact on the A90 is completed.
Potential developments affected include the various supermarket proposals in the Myrekirk/South Road area of the city, plans for three “villages” and an industrial area—including the Swallow village, which already has planning approval—at the Western Gateway and the proposal from the Scottish Crop Research Institute for a science park and housing.
The trunk road bosses consider a “piecemeal” approach will not be effective, with “small, isolated and unco-ordinated improvements being taken forward by individual developers” likely to be disruptive to the operation of the local and trunk road network.

Motorists are being told to leave early or avoid the area while work to re-lay and resurface a short stretch of the carriageway is carried out at a cost of ninety-five thousand pounds.
Aberdeen City Council say the work is necessary because of damage to the road from heavy vehicles.

If the A90 dual carriageway were being built now, I reckon that the junctions would have been built differently - compare the junctions at Balmedie (population 1991 1470) with the junctions of the A96 at Blackburn (poulaion 1991 1150).
Residents of these roads were asked their views at the end of last year and all three scheme were supported.
However, the police felt that an extension of the 30mph zone couldn't be justified, despite the longer lead-ins to the 30mph zone at the north of Old Road an on Eigie Road.
