AA Grapevine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AA Grapevine is the international monthly journal of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Its slogan, an AA "meeting in print," was adopted after supportive letters from overseas AA members in the armed forces.
It became the international journal of AA in 1949, due to added readership in Canada and Europe.

Alcoholics Anonymous - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A.A. believes that the relative success of their program is owed to their opinion that a recovering alcoholic has a special ability to bond and provide insight into the necessity of sobriety to the alcoholic.
A.A. literature describes a difference between an "alcoholic" and a "problem drinker", claiming that unlike a ‘problem drinker’ who may drink alcohol but retains the ability to stop or moderate his or her drinking, an alcoholic has an incurable disease rendering them unable to moderate their consumption of alcohol.
AA meetings may be important, along with reading AA materials and working the steps, but it is working with other alcoholics, helping and being helped, talking and interacting, that allow an alcoholic to do what he or she cannot do alone: stay sober.

 Alcoholics Anonymous : Service Material
In those early years, the Grapevine had just begun to circulate among nonalcoholics, and the Preamble was intended primarily to describe for them what AA is and is not.
In discussion, most Conference members felt that as AA had matured, it had become almost impossible to determine what constitutes an honest desire to stop drinking, and also that some who might be interested in the program could be confused by the phrase.
At the same time, the phrase “AA has no dues or fees” was clarified to read as it presently does: “There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions.” The current version of the Preamble appears on page one of every issue of the Grapevine.

 Alcoholics Anonymous
AA grew increasingly rapidly after nationwide press and the extensive distribution of Alcoholics Anonymous by the new Alcoholic Foundation created by Bill W. and Dr. Bob with the financial assistance of the Friends of John D. Rockefeller.
The remote branches of AA were thus made accountable and networked into the larger organization, thereby assuring for the future AA's function as a massive international yet non-hierarchical organization with a single goal: sobriety.
Part of the strength of AA is the importance of the autonomy of the individual groups laid out in step four of the Twelve Traditions.
