Charles was recording a new collection of duets when he died of acute liver disease in June 2004.
This effect was fully realized in "I Got A Woman" (recorded in November 1954), a song soaked in the fervour of the Baptist Church, but rendered salacious by the singer's abandoned, unrefined delivery.

During 1952-53, he had several hit records including the Brazilian song "Delicado" (the amplified harp was played by Stan Freeman), and "The Song From The Moulin Rouge" (a Felicia Sanders vocal hit).
The record was (quoting the liner notes) "...an interpretation of ancient Inca rituals, superstitions, and the romance and mysteries of their colorful civilization." His work featured such titles as "Jaguar God," "Temple of Suicide," and "Venus Girl." A couple of years later, Frontiere was arranging and producing stereo albums for the new Capitol label.
He later recorded for the Fraternity and Parrot labels, and his last recording was in February 1958.

mention Creed Taylor here primarily in order to give proper credit to Kenyon Hopkins, who composed and arranged Shock, Lonelyville, and other albums that appeared under the name of "The Creed Taylor Orchestra" on ABC-Paramount Records.
While at ABC, he founded Impulse, which was one of the most important jazz labels of the 1960s, with a distinctive orange-and-black gatefold design featuring artists such as Charles Mingus, Art Blakey, Sonny Rollins, and Gary McFarland.
At the time, many jazz critics dismissed these records as commercial pandering, but in recent years, they have brought the works of Walter Wanderley, Cal Tjader, Willie Bobo, Gary McFarland, and others a new generation of fans who appreciate the fusion of jazz, pop, and Latin rhythms and styles.

One of the chief attractions of the ABC deal for Charles was a much greater degree of artistic control of his recordings.
In 1952, Atlantic Records signed him to a contract although his first recordings with the label were not made until May of the next year.

Some of the RCA records were released as by "Steve Gibson and the Original Red Caps." If there was any spurious "Red Caps" competing with them at this time, no recordings by the ersatz group have ever surfaced.
Since many of them were made during the AFM recording ban, the instrumental capabilities of the group aren't always apparent, and the sound is much different from later recordings, even when the same members are present.
Possibly not on any recordings, but part of the live group at this time was drummer Henry Tucker Green, who was the drummer for the Treniers from 1948, and was in and out of them, the Red Caps, and, later, the Romaines.

Chicago Soul vocal group the Marvelows wrote the song that would be their biggest hit,"I Do",an upbeat top ten RandB/top 40 Pop hit in 1965.Formed in Chicago Heights,IL by Melvin Mason,the group was signed to ABC-Paramount Records through the label's Chicago branch which was headed by arranger/producer Johnny Pate.
The Marvelows (now The Mighty Marvelows to avoid confusion with the similarly named West Coast group,The Marvellos who recorded for Warner Bros. Records subsidiary Loma) had their second and only other charting single with the ballad "In The Morning" b/w "Talkin' Bout Ya Baby"(or "I Do"),#24 RandB,#105 Pop,spring 1968.
The latter song was created by the group as a warm-up song; something to sing to prepare their voices.
